At least he'll have an extra week off to make sure his knee is really 100%?? I dunno man. He'll get past this run of bad luck eventually.

https://twitter.com/KatieStrangESPN/status/544599181114216448

(2/2) doses of mumps vaccine will be placed in isolation and monitored for symptoms of the mumps.

I feel bad for those kids, hopefully they are ok.

How much worse is Beau going to feel should it happen he gave some poor kid The Mumps?

Good God...

The only pens players who are in the clear of the mumps are the one's who already had them as a kid.

I was reading that no Czech players will get the mumps because parents in the Czech take there children to visit families with infected kids, that way nobody in Czech will have the mumps as an adult.

And Adams regardless of if he had it as a child or not.

Wasn't it reported earlier this season that Corey Perry had the mumps as a kid, but got them AGAIN anyway?

Poor guy is seriously having Penguins levels of ****** luck, if he had it as a child, was regardless if this fact pricked, prodded and vaccinated before Sotchi and yet got it again anyway.

Not sure if this has been posted yet in here... but here you go.

that's the darn thing with this, and I guess why the situation is so confusing for Crosby. Not only was he vaccinated as a kid, he got a booster before going over for the olympics. I mean he's about as protected as you can be against this.

Big misconception - no players are truly "in the clear" as you say.

Throwing a wrench into all of this is that some players with the disease recently did receive a booster. The Penguins claim Crosby was vaccinated against mumps in February; he had antibodies in his system, just not enough. And that's what makes this so challenging for the NHL (or any concentrated workplace). There isn't a simple blood test to confirm with 100 percent certainty that a hockey player (or any person) is truly immune to mumps. That's because the optimal level of antibody to protect from the virus is unknown. NHL teams assumed players were immune when, in fact, they were not.

During the 2006 outbreak, more than 95% of students at one university had been vaccinated against mumps and researchers could not identify a threshold antibody level that correlated with protection. Some got it, some didn't. Yes, it's better to have a lot neutralizing antibodies rather than no antibodies, but we can't say precisely how much you'll need to be safe the next time mumps hits your town. Or your ice rink.

I always thought you could only get the mumps once.
That´s true. Well, unless you are Beau Bennett. If there´s a person who has a chance to get it twice, it´s him. Craig Adams on the other hand.. he can be kissing Bennett´s current face and he´s still safe. There´s some fair balance out there, though. If you decide to somehow create a new person by 50% of Beau and 50% of Craig Adams, you will get a pretty standard guy.

Despite the incendiary title, this is a pretty good article from Deadspin about why NHL players are getting mumps, dealing with something called "secondary failure" of vaccines and comparing it to a College outbreak in 2006. Answers the question of "do players of X nationality not get vaccinated?" which I have, myself, asked.

Identifies Beauchemin as patient zero, but I could have sworn this started with on the Blues.

Mumps couldn't keep Craig Adams out of the lineup. He'd be perfectly fine.

Not sure if it was mentioned somewhere around here already.. but it seems like Beau Bennett abandoned from Twitter. I´m not sure when exactly, but it seems like a case. Guy has to be frustrated from life now.

There's nothing confusing about it. I thought jeff goldblum already taught this lesson in jurassic park. Maybe that's why they have to make another sequel.

The part I don't get is the author recommends boosters to combat the outbreak. But Sid got a booster last year. So why didn't it work?
