Unless they're just dumping Kane I don't know what they can do but flip prospects and depth for different prospects and depth.

Everyone is injured.

It would be fair to say that they need everything. I'm not kidding about the injuries.

I do not think Kane is the involved party. My guess would be to shore up the defense. Maybe something around Forbort? Not sure how available he would be.

I do. Bobby Mac has confirmed his name was being discussed with Vancouver, and Russo suggested Buffalo and the Wild spoke about Kane, as well. His fate in Buffalo was probably sealed with his Draft Eve tussles with bar patrons, including pulling a woman by the hair. Between his off-ice issues and his relative inability to consistently mesh with Buffalo's top players, I don't think he's long for that organization. Really, I just don't see Buffalo paying to re-sign Kane - or Kane wanting to stay in another small-market hockey fishbowl, for that matter - so might as well get something more than a rental price for him.

As for Buffalo's needs, they need a lot. Some longer term blueline help would be useful, as would a forward who can create offensive chances and/or finish.

For the right price I think everyone not named Eichel, ROR, Okposo, Ristoleinen, Lehner and Nylander are available. Maybe Reinhart. We need a Dman who with wheels who can rush with the puck, get shots on net from the left side. We need a left winger with speed who will create chances and score on the ones he gets. With the cap and with expansion on the horizon TM may need help from Harry Potter.

Isn't every team in the NHL in trade talk basically every day? It's worth noting.

As a Sabres fan as well, i am not disputing the fact their is interest in Kane. I just think that this speculstion of a possible trade, in my opinion, will not include Kane.

I think there is a difference between talk and negotiations. Talk is more "this guy available?" Negotiations are more along the lines of " we have the main pieces nailed down, but lets even it out". Again this is more opinion based than fact.

Martinez++ for Reinhart

Or

McNabb+ for E. Kane

1st offer is ludicrous.

2nd offer I'd wait to see what the plus is, but it's not a horrible base for a deal. Kane has been pretty crap so far and in addition to his off ice issues, I'd say his value is pretty low at the moment.

Buffalo will want equal quality for what they're offering. They're not interested in quantity as they have a huge prospect pool right now.

keep that in mind.

Also, Reinhart is probably not even on the table. He might be slumping because he's been thrust into an impossible situation, but he's still got huge potential.

And McNabb was already a Sabre once. He was traded out of Buffalo by Murray. I doubt he'd want him back.

I'm sure teams are often in trade talk

Vogl largely steers clear of trade talk, rumors, etc. That's what gives this some creedence to me - sure, Murray is probably in touch with other GM's on a daily basis, but Vogl doesn't report like this in those situations. Chances are he has a pretty good source. I'd even venture that he requested comment from Murray and he didn't get a denial, which led him to tweet.

Nothing may come of it. Vogl said as much. But there was something more than just two GM's chatting for Vogl to tweet about it.

Reinhart is the young skilled guy the Kings need. But I know they don't have the assets to get him. Even if it was Martinez + Kempe + 1st + 2nd...wouldn't be enough for Buffalo fans to consider.

The McNabb + pick/prospect for E. Kane deal is probably easier to make. We know Kane is the better player potential wise, but at those guys age; they are who they are. So I don't think it would be a major add because Kane has those maturity issues and they probably won't get much better.
