Nino would make sense but if we take Gardiner would want better 3rd piece.

Ya that’s fair. I agree that there needs to be probably a better 3rd piece going back but I’m bad at the valuations on prospects and stuff like that. The way I look at it is Nino is coming off a good year with Carolina. He was pacing for 30 g and 50 p while being a physical presence. He replaces Tarasenko and honestly will give you more than you e got by far over the let two years.

Gardiner might be LTIR in which case the cap doesn’t matter but when healthy he’s a contributor on the blue line and powerplays. His back is a question mark but moving his salty and injury concern mitigates some of the same for Tarasenko.

The third piece is the key to the deal and I’m open to negotiation on that. I’m ndunnonwhat Blues needs are for roster players or prospects but Canes have a good system so I’m sure there’s a fit there

I like a potential core swap of Nino for Tarasenko. Far less interested in Gardiner. Any interest in Vince Dunn on the Canes side of things. My thoughts being the Blues package Vladi and Dunn together for Nino, take on the Gardiner contract for 2 years and slightly increase the value of the 3rd piece?

I actually had Dunn in my original proposal but didn’t want to over complicate it. There a fit for sure. The 3rd piece can be increased no doubt. What are the Blues needs?

Gardiner balances salary and injury risk.

Nino was a 30g, 50p pace player this year. He could be re-signed I’m sure.
I like Nino a lot as a player. Just don’t like that in a year from now he’ll be a 30 year old UFA and I’m not sure how well he’ll age so it’s risky to re-sign him. It’s why I’d rather take a chance on a younger player.

How about Tarasenko and Dunn for Nino, Skjei, and Foegele?

Skjei is too big of a piece and we need to move Gardiner to make space for Dunn. Foegele could be in the deal but on the Canes board we’re looking at this.

Nino + Gardiner + Foegele for Tarasenko + Dunn

I think Blues management still views their window as open with guys like RoR, Parayko, Schenn ect still in their prime. So prospects that are a little further along would be more ideal than picks in their mind. Personally I like a guy like Tuukka Tieksola who I think in a re-draft would land somewhere in the early second round. I know some Blues fans will be like, "who" but I think he is a real boom/bust prospect who has taken big strides since being drafted.

Edit: I do like Foegele too, but I would have thought the Canes would want to keep him, with him being such a glue guy.

Either re-sign him or sell him off for a good asset. If we’re taking Tank w no retention we gotta move salary and a winger out

Ya TT jr is a good one and has the makings of being a solid nhler. I’d hate to lose him and if Tank can’t regain his form the trade could look terrible but I get needing a quality young piece back that can contribute soon .I probably do the deal but I play fast and loose with prospects

Keep seeing reports linking NYI to Tank. If he is not compromised health wise moving forward and isn’t one hit away from another shoulder injury, he’s exactly what will help NYI get over the hump.

Barzal would be the best center he’s played with. I could see them having chemistry. Talent begets talent.

NO, we're not.
LD is a place we need an upgrade.

That said; Gardiner has the opposite skill set of what we need. We need a top 4 shut down type D man to push Scandella to the 3d pair.
I should have phrased that differently. I agree. We need an upgrade, and I agree Gardiner is not that. Having said that, we have a lot of bodies on LD, including prospects.

I would take him in St Louis. He really needs fresh start.

How do you think your fellow Blues fans feel about that? I'm personally a Drouin supporter but I realize his flaws at the same time. It would be a nice story to see him flourish on another team (offensively). He has the skating, vision, and skill to do it. Just needs a more positive situation where he's now followed around by a black cloud all the time cause that's been happening his entire time in Montreal. Ontarian's protect their own, Quebecor's throw them under the bus. Some think Danault is getting no more than $4M cause he only puts up 30-50 pts and they think a shutdown center like that is easily replaceable.

Jeremy Rutherford was just on NHL radio, and said they might take something as little as a 2nd round pick just to avoid exposing Tarasenko, he also wasn't sure Seattle would even take him, but St Louis would rather protect other players. He also said the player might be hard to move because the money owed > AAV
