Unless Ramirez becomes available and the price is fair, its best to roll with Cavan and Espinal. That being said the Jays could add another bat. Probably should add a starter and another shut down reliever. Speaking of shutdown reliever;

I'm still into getting Bryant at the right price, he got BABIP'd insanely hard in June, I'm sure he'll round off a bit in July. Although his defence hasn't been stellar this year either, he represents an upgrade for Cavan there too.

If the price is too high, they should just wait until the TDL to see how Bryant's july shapes up.

Given the team's current position (44-40), I'm OK with these types of deadline deals :

1) depth/low-level prospects for one-year rentals.
2) certain higher-level prospects for impact players with multiple years of team control.

I'm not really OK with trading for a Kris Bryant when the cost will likely be multiple top-10 prospects in the organization and he'll almost certainly leave after the season when we're 44-40 and the team's playoff odds are ~40%. If the team was 55-29 and guaranteed a playoff position and was a WS favourite, it would be a different story.

This management team has never subscribed to overpaying for a rental, so I doubt Bryant is really a consideration unless the acquisition cost is reasonable or less. At least with Kimbrel you have him as your closer next year as well.

Might be best to try for one more starter and/or reliever earlier in July and wait and see on position players. If Biggio plays as well as Bryant in July, just pass. If Cleveland falls further out of the race, ask about Ramirez. Even if just information gathering for later if they don't want to deal him now.

if st louis is out of the race and we improve our playoff chances a bit over the next month, i would like to try and get nolan arenado, his defense this year hasnt been as good but nothing to suggest that its anything more than a blip and his bat is still potent, he would be a nice off season target as well. definitely a good consolation if ramirez is too costly.
i wonder how long before martin is up(maybe next year or 2023?) and what position he will settle into.

If you're the Jays do trade Martin straight up for Ramirez or do you try lower down the prospect ring with Orelvis?

If we decide to go after the twins for a trade and its big pieces i wonder if we can get kepler and berrios for some combination of .. jansen or reese but i believe janswn still holds more value and gurriel with a prospect like joey murray who can fill in the rotation if need be

Gets us a lefty bat and a starter with control for the next season

Then have reese kirk and moreno waiting

Obviously you try to negotiate a lesser price but if it were Martin straight up for Ramirez, I think I do this. You get a top 5 player on a steal of a deal for 3 playoff runs with Groshans, Hiraldo, Martinez and others all capable of playing 3B long term if you don’t want to re-sign Ramirez.

Also if you are a free agent pitcher, you look at this lineup with Ramirez and the future outlook of this club, you are going to sign here. It’s your best chance at winning long term

2021: $35,000,000
2022: $35,000,000
2023: $35,000,000
2024: $35,000,000
2025: $32,000,000
2026: $27,000,000
2027: $15,000,000

Complete with a full No-Trade Clause

I think I will pass on that, especially when we have a few players who are going to need to get paid that kind of money in a few years.

Jesus Christ, they have Franco at 80FV with $180m value. Has there even been a 80FV prospect before? Is this guy possibly the best prospect in modern history?

f***ing Rays.
Wasn't Guerrero an 80 FV prospect? Our $180 mil Surplus value is putting up value now.

If it makes you feel better according to baseball trade value our top 10 assets(not prospects, so it includes current players) add up to 599.4 million in surplus value, the Rays top 10 add up to 546.6 million, and we have more money to spend every year to add to the total on field value. The Rays have more depth with 30 guys extending into the 10+ million surplus value to only 14 for us, but these are both teams that should dominate moving forward.

With all the rain Michael Dominguez finally gets his first FCL appearance. 1.2 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 K's, no runs.

Just my personal longshot favorite.
