I really hate the term "nothing-burger" but that's exactly what this is. He clearly wasn't ready for hockey in the NHL and then showed he wasn't quite ready for the AHL either. Let him continue to grow where he's comfortable.

Trade him. Not a fan of players leaving to go back to their country at any given time. Soft mentality.

I just hope his attitude didn't suck horrifically and didn't whine and cry about not being in the NHL.

Holding out for the whole KHL is a great league to develop skills, closer to home, he'll get more playing time and both camps are very much on the same page. Don't read into it kinda thing.

I can understand Kravtsov wanting to go home to a better league, bigger salary and to be closer to family and friends. Still disappointed in this though, I was hoping he could work through things and learn to succeed in the AHL. Hope he handles this disappointment well and channels it into becoming an even better player.

I'm all for this move if it means more playing time and him developing his game and his talent.

Everyone saying he isn't tough mentally etc etc... would love to see how you would react as a 19 year old, away from home under the same circumstances.

I think he showed he needs to work on his game to be successful at the NHL level and not turn out to be a Nik Zherdev :)

Consensus is he might be a little soft mentally. Like most are saying you just hope there's a real good understanding between both camps and the goal is to come back with more speed, skill and size when he's needed.

Finally someone noticed that at this age it is not only about eliminating your weaknesses and maturing your game, but also about developing your talent and that is not easy to do if you're benched all the time.

This thread is straight fire takes.

Can't imagine everyone here was sent to another country, with another language, expect to produce while playing, do well enough to play in a city like NYC, get sent to another city that's essentially a big town, and expect to be cool with it. Oh, and you're 19, not your current age.

Everyone would want to go home crying in two weeks, not two months.

One could think that your AHL affiliate team is for getting top playing roles and icetime for your top prospects, but that is just a somehow popular myth.

So at what point, if both parties agree that he’s not ready, does one stop banging their head against a brick wall and revisit things a little further down the road?

Or is it a skull be damned type approach because this is what we want, we want it now, and to hell with the reality staring us in the face?

My concern with this; What is he going to learn in the KHL? It's apparent he wasn't doing something management demanded of him. I don't see how the KHL will change that.

Sometimes a move isn’t about teaching a prospect everything he needs to learn, but rather letting him get to a point where he is READY to learn.

I don't like people giving up at the first sign of adversity.

I saw huge glaring holes in his game during traverse City and it was on full display in the preseason..him not willing to stay here and work on it is very worrisome.

I don't know how this is anything but concerning.

I'm going to disagree with @Edge ... I think this is a big deal.

Being a top prospect gives you opportunities, it doesn't guarantee anything more. It's up to every prospect to make use of those opportunities. I don't know exactly what happened in Hartford with Kravtsov, but if the rumours spread here are true then I can understand the tough love approach.

At what point do we all take our rose-colored glasses off and acknowledge this organization has an issue developing its own high draft picks?

Who was our last first round pick who didn’t develop into an NHL player?

And how many high draft picks have we failed with since 2005?

Maybe he is going to try to learn to take his strengths to the new level? Not to mention that the current Traktor coach is Peter Skudra, who is quite a harrsh and demanding coach and wont be too tolerant to immature things.

So let me ask you this:

If this was a 19 year old who was just sent back to his junior team after a handful of games, which we’ve seen hundreds of times in the NHL, would we view this as being as damning?

None of his issues are going to get solved playing KHL hockey.

he’s struggling with pace and time and space on the smaller rink. Playing for an awful KHl team is stalling his development.

and by the way if Kravtsov was playing like farabee for us right now we’d all be out buying his jersey. That’s how good farabee has been.

I hate the way he took this set back. Two weeks in the A and he bolts? Brutal. Meanwhile Shesterkin is 23 way more established and dominating. Chytil is an nhler he is only a few months older. Went down and dominates. This is a lousy lousy look from a kid I expected a lot more from.
