Hey guys! Wife and I are coming to Detroit for the Thanksgiving Lions game this year. I’m looking at hotels downtown and they’re too expensive, so then I noticed Dearborn has some good hotel prices (specifically the Hampton Inn on Michigan Ave) and is a short Uber from airport and downtown. Wife, however, searched crime in Dearborn and raised concerns.

Michigan Ave seems to be lively with shops and restaurants. Is she paranoid or am I wrong here?

Doubt there would be issues. If the wife is worried look into the Hampton Inn in Livonia or stay by the airport. You won't have problem getting Uber anywhere.

I was just in that area about a month ago for brunch with a bunch of ladies and I didn't get any unsafe vibes. We ate at the Commoner which looks to be 2 blocks away. I've personally never had any issues visiting the Michigan Ave corridor there, but I can't say I've stayed at the hotel.

Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford are right up the street as well.

If you are traveling between there and Detroit I would just caution to grab gas nearer your hotel or downtown the in between is not the nicest.

As mentioned above Livonia is another option semi near both. I personally like the Dearborn area more but you guys should 100% go where you will feel most comfortable.

Hey fellas! I’m flying back to Detroit for Indy car this weekend. I’ve got a list of some old favorites I intend on checking out when in town;

Gold cash gold
Johnny noodle king
Green dot stables
Valentine’s vodka
Flytrap
Cliff bells

What are some new places I should try?

A buddy from Nashville wanted to stop in Detroit on his way to Petosky and then Mackinac Island.

Along with recommendations for Petosky and Mackinac, I suggested a tour of the churches and architecture of the City, DIA, Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum, the Ford Mansion, Greektown and a Tigers game (Wings were not yet playing).

He made it to G Village, HF Museum and Greektown, before heading north. Loved it so much, he topped on his way back south and visited DIA . He is now planning a return visit.

In short, while the topic is Detroit, MI has a ton to offer folks. I have lived in Michigan, 3 parts of CA (North, South and SoCal coast), Tennessee, Hill Country Texas and Mesa AZ.

As my wife and I look at our anchor home in the USA, Birmingham MI is atop the list. Proximity to the D, airport, walkability, safety, culture, beer (Griffin Claw!), train to ChiTown, on and on and on, we just love it. Detroit in the winter is better than Detroit in the summer!

We are staying in the West village for a weekend game coming up.

Should I drive to the casino, park, then shuttle? Or Uber straight from our B&B?

Any good eats around West village/gold coast? Walkable or drive and keep our heads on a swivel?

I'll be in town for tomorrow game with my family - 3 kids under 10.

We're thinking christmas market...anything else to do this weekend?? Thanks:)
If you are 1 of the first 7,500 fans to enter the LCA you’ll get one of these…

Kinda neat and something to remember your trip with the family.

If you’re into the theater there’s the Detroit famous Fox Theater and this Sunday is the Charlie Brown Christmas…

There’s also The Grinch at the Fox Theater starting on the 27th…

The Henry Ford Museum is great - however I don’t think many kids under 10 will appreciate it, or have the patience…

If you guys like pizza you can’t go wrong with Loui’s Pizza…

Loui's Pizza - Google Suche

And for those with a sweet tooth the Astoria Pastry Shop located in Greektown (right by the Greektown Casino) is a place to visit…
