Oh and for food, Mio in Airdrie is the best sushi you're gonna get outside of Vancouver.

There are like a trillion great sushi places in Toronto. Also anywhere that doesn't uni (sea urchin) or legit tuna (red tuna not the white tuna bs they serve) is automatically a red flag in my eyes. Halifax has good sushi BTW just saying.

Thanks OKG! I'll be going to Drumheller today and I'll make sure to visit horseshoe canyon :)

Plus, I hate seafood so sushi is a no go for me

Gonna have that Alberta beef! Yeah

:rant::rant: Why you gotta be like that bruh? In all seriousness sushi isn't actually seafood lol. Yes they usually put seafood on or in the sushi, but there are definitely non-seafood variants. Like are you a fan of eggs? You should try tamago (Omelet sushi). Although I agree with you with the Alberta beef supremacy.

Oh sorry I just always associated sushi with fish haha. I'm not a fan of egg so maybe the tamago isn't for me :D

Alberta beef tho oh baby

No worries no need to apologize I didn't mean to come across as actually ranting lol, I just love seafood. But seriously you gotta try at least the sushi itself (The rice), so are you a fan of tofu/bean curd? If so try the Inari sushi.

Haha it's all good. Not a fan of tofu or rice tbh. I've actually had plenty of experience with rice, but I've never really liked it lol. I'm from the lower mainland (Vancouver area) and I've had sushi before, and I'm just not a big fan. Different strokes for different folks I guess

TooGaudreau should be poster of the year.

That guy is cool and all, but there's this Hot guy who is 100x better

Don't go to the Shanghai Restaurant out side of Calgary (Claresholm area). Friend of mine once had a fly in his water and he told his waitress and she literally stuck her finger in his glass, took it out and said

"There. All better"

General rule of thumb, don't go to Claresholm because there's nothing there.
IF you go South, just go to Nanton for the candy shop, museum and antiquing.

Clareholm just has a DQ, the mental ward and a Super 8 as their top hotel.

Claresholm has the busiest 7-11 in Alberta... so there's that. Also if you like Cinnamon Buns, Roy's Place has an INCREDIBLE one... was on You Gotta Eat here.

But yes, that's all it has.

Calgary, the City & the Team!

Just accepted and transfer from the East Coast to Calgary... Will try to live in a Central Area/Close to downtown (money wont be an issue) - the best neighborhood in the city, is by far Inglewood, I lived for 2 years on 9th avenue SE

Can anyone fill me in on the city? What is there to do?

-Live Music (punk, metal, garage) - MacEwan Hall, The Palomino, The Dickens
-Running - Bow River Pathway, West Bragg Creek
-Hiking -Kananaskis Country, West Bragg Creek, Bow River Pathway
-Dogs - Sue Higgins Dog Park, Bow River Pathway
-Craft Beer - Oak and Vine, Craft Beer Market
-Live Hockey - Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen

Thx in advance guys, and will be at the game SENS/FLAMES Nov. 15th ;)

**Please move this topic if not properly located, I couldn't find a thread here about the city**
I'm back on the east coast guys, thx for you hospitality Calgary (and the citizens)!! I had a great experience with the city and it's surrounding in general

see above, these are what I've found while experimenting with my hobbies in the city. I'll always have a soft spot for the Flames in my heart and a new found hate for their Northern neighbor

and one more thing to say... f*** THE STAMPEDE (even though I lived about 1km away from stampede ground 2/3 of my stay in Calgary)!!!!!!!!!!!

So guys maybe not necessarily visiting Calgary. But I heard computer programmers in Calgary earn the highest starting salaries, some as high as 84K an year (Before taxes) in Canada. Alberta also has the lowest taxes in Canada, and generally speaking property is much cheaper than BC, Quebec, and Ontario. Food is fresher as well (Albeit more dairy, beef, wheat, etc. based compared to the rest of Canada, for example you want seafood? Atlantic Canada or BC is your destination and food overall is more expensive outside of beef and dairy). I'm planning for my future, and which place in Calgary or surrounding areas would be the best to raise a mixed race family? Is Airdrie a nice place?

Also another bonus, if the Flames (God hope) stays for good in Calgary, that'll mean I can always watch Flames games after work haha, and bonus is my current crush isn't a big fan of hockey anyways, so she won't be missing out.

Big cities are all expensive, in their own way. Clearly Vancouver is its own beast.
Food is a toss up. Most fruits don't even come from Canada it seems, outside of some from the valley. It's weird thing to even consider, unless you're looking to move to the territories most foods will even up.

Also, a mixed race family? That's not even a thing to consider to be honest. Calgary's a diverse city, we're not confederate raising hillbillies, anywhere in Calgary. Airdrie's nice, but FML going South in the morning and North in the afternoon. Unless you more or less want a big house for a cheaper price, just pass. You have everything up there, except most work; I wouldn't recommend Okotoks/Airdrie/Cochrane/Strathmore personally (I hold a real estate license as well, so it might be a bit of some pro advice) unless you're looking to do some smaller town living (some folks want that) and don't mind driving (also worth considering winter; it's not fun going from downtown Calgary to Cochrane in the middle of a snowstorm... also worth noting drives home from parties/get togethers etc... it's a pain. You have to really want to live out there, and there people who do, no slight). If you're looking for that 'I'm in the burbs!' feel, there's a ton of areas around Calgary's outskirts that offer reasonable pricing.

I'm still really young, but nevertheless planning things out, according to what I want and a good place in what I want. (So please don't recommend I live in China, Nigeria, India, etc. just because those countries economies are growing, because in terms of quality of life, I don't even think they'll surpass Canada in 2200 and that's if they continue growing like crazy and Canada starts declining in terms of quality, neither of which seem to be happening both now and in the future).

To the bolded I realize that one trillion percent, nevertheless there are some places that are better than others. In the GTA Asian men non-Asian women couples are stared and questioned at everywhere minus rich white neighborhoods or rich diverse neighborhoods, so no harmful racism, but nevertheless some people act differently in front of those couples than elsewhere.

My plan is to get an entry computer programmer job by 2020, and have my first born in 2025 lol. Buy a big house by 2030.

Anyone have any recommendations for condos/apartments to rent in Calgary in the beltline region? I've read a lot of negative things about Boardwalk rental communities so far in my search.

I'm moving there for January and I want to live within walking distance of work. The unfortunate part is I can't view any of these places and I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on most places thus far.

I lived in Inglewood for 2 years and LOVED that area, but it's like 4km from Beltline
