Also binny might not want to go to arizona even if it meant he could start again. That franchise and rink situation is quite embarassing.
Arizona also recently extended Vejmelka to a $2.725M x 3 year deal. They are riding him like a starter this year and clearly believe that he has more potential than just being a straight backup. There would be no assurance that Binner would be a clear starter if he went there. EVen if the Coyotes told him that they want him to be the guy, they like Vejmelka enough that he is going to get every chance to be a 30+ start guy.

If I were Binner, I wouldn't waive my NTC to go to Arizona this summer. I'd rather bet on myself to put the work in this summer and come to Blues camp to compete for a job. Having the outside track to the net here is a more appealing notion than having the inside track to the net in an NCAA arena.

I think Binnington will be here next year. I don’t think people want that contract unless he shows something more and I doubt the blues would give up assets to get rid of him.

I'll just put this here.

This actually looks like a godsend, if the ownership group has the stomach for it. Army's never done it before, but it frees up about $4M per year over the next 4-years, and only costs $2M/year on the final 5-years...but by then the Cap should have increased.

That's 10 years though, I doubt ownership or Army is up for that. Army probably does need to make some plan to retain Husso though.

Even if ownership has the stomach for it, I wouldn't buy him out until next summer. I think we can make his cap number work next year and it is 2023/24 that I'm really worried about. I'd rather spend a year trying to move him (possibly with some retention) than buy him out this summer. If he rehabs his game and can be moved, then that is fantastic. If not, then a buyout next summer is just as favorable against the cap in the years we really need the relief (and lasts for 1 fewer year than a buyout this summer).

All of this is moot if ownership isn't on board with a buyout. But even if they are, I think it is a better strategic decision to put that buyout off for a year.

Goalies have a down year then bounce back all the time. Itd be silly to buy him out rather than seeing if he can bpunce back and relieve some of that negative contract value.

I would assume so but better to ask the experts. Will Husso be your playoff starter?
It's playoff pool time. :)

I give it about a 99.999999999999% Chance that Husso starts game one of the playoffs
I dont know, with the blues luck, there coukd be more than a .0000000000001% chance of husso injuring himself the last game of the season forcing binny to start

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but Oilers fan looking at the potential goalie gacha machine this offseason and this is the "big name" goalie I'm least familiar with. The only games I watched were playoffs which while an important sample size probably doesn't tell the whole story. I assume you guys are going with Binnington next year? What are the strengths and weaknesses of Husso's and are there any major flaws to his game? (Koskinen's nonexistent glove hand, Mike Smith's sieve of a five hole, lateral movements, rebound control etc)

Husso doesn't know where the posts are.

We call him Short Side Husso.

He’d be an upgrade over what you have. He was mentally fragile last season, his first real action. This year he did a great job when Binnington faltered, for a large chunk of the season. He was above average on high danger saves. In the playoffs he was uneven.

I would expect him to be an average starter next year, durable, but should be paired with an experienced backup who could platoon.

He’s solid positionally and has quick reflexes. He’s really strong down low. Glove hand is OK. Until the playoffs I think a large contingent of Blues fans were hoping the team would move Binnington and sign Husso to take over as starter.

Watch out for his early game 5-hole goals. Has a big problem letting those in on the first 5-10 shots in the game.

Comes off the post if anyone even does a slight head fake

Bad five hole

May be one of the worst goalies in the league at playing the puck

As bad as Binny may be portrayed, he is the guy we won the Cup with and was the big difference against the Avs. If he didn't get injured, we would have taken them. That speaks volumes. I don't see anything in Husso that we couldn't find similar to or better elsewhere. Just my honest opinion.

Yeah, few decent backup quality goalies likely hitting UFA this year and wait to see what happens with Hofer the next 2 years

Im glad the Blues took 4 goalies across 3 drafts recently, I believe every team should be throwing atleast 1 pick in the 3-7 round range at a goalie each year. Truly gambles for the most part

That's a really f***ing dumb question. ya man, we're gonna go with the goalie that totally had a f***ing melt down in the playoffs instead of the dude that was rocking a save% so high that the Avs had to hurt him to win.
Jesus, what the hell is up your ass this morning?
Excuse me for not knowing every teams situation. I almost thought this was a hockey forum to talk about hockey… I guess we’ll just use it to mock and belittle people tho, carry on Xerloris.

Ya you're right I was rude and I apologize. Husso had a god level January and pretty good February. He was mostly mediocre ever since and then completely failed in the playoffs. Binnington was good until he got covid and then he looked exhausted for months after which went perfectly with his poor play. When the playoffs started the goalies really showed us who they were and Binnington is the guy. Husso, imo I hope he goes somewhere and get's paid because we can't afford to pay him to be a backup.
