I hated the first GOW game (the reboot). They forced you to switch weapons 1/2 way through the game (among other problems).

I dunno about Ragnarok. A 10 review on IGN...I guess I'll wait and see what you guys have to say...if its overwhelming positive I might buy it, down the line, when its selling for 20 somewhere.

Right now I'm enjoying Jedi: Fallen Order. Its great, though there are few problems with the controls here and there (eg. climbing is very inconsistent).

Haven’t started Ragnarok yet but I will probably in the next week or two after I polish off Xenoblade 3 (a fun romp if you like JRPGs).

If you hated this aspect of the 2018 GOW, you won't like Ragnarok. There are both new weapons and periods of time in which you control Atreyus and use his bow as your primary weapon.

How was the the second Horizon game? I got bored of the first one eventually.
I’m biased because it might be my favorite series but I loved it. I think the story isn’t as compelling as the original but the gameplay is better and the landscape/scenery/locations are unreal. The way they recreate Vegas might be the best location I’ve experienced in a video game, it’s unreal.

I will say though, I got to a point and then stopped playing it. I finished the main storyline and all side missions but didn’t have the desire to slog through to achieve 100% completion. And the ending is meh.

Just started playing Desperados III and it’s awesome. I absolutely loved the Commandos series on PC back in the day and this is the same type of RTT/RTS. Very much looking forward to it.

Hmmm, I think I'll pick it up when it goes on sale.

In the first one I liked the combat and fighting machines and all that, but I found the world/map of the first game quite repetitive. It's just open nature everywhere and a whole lot of running around. Ghost of Tsushima was like that too but at least they had towns, enemy outpost, samurai fights, etc. to make it interesting.

That said I only got half way in the first game and my memory is very foggy on it's side quests and progression system :dunno:

There are very distinct locations in HFW. There are different tribes you visit as well as ruins of old cities. All of them are different and well done in my opinion.

The PlayStation Black Friday sale starts this Friday and I imagine it’ll be on sale then.

Sounds cool, I’ll have to dive back in someday.

Open world games are so massive these days I never finish them in one run anymore.

It’s so annoying. I put in 80+ hours into AC Odyssey and barely finished the main story. I tried AC Valhalla and couldn’t get into it, just so massive. I actually stopped playing Ghost of Tsushima the first time because I was burned out from the genre.

It’s why I like sports games. A game of FIFA or Chel takes 15 minutes and there’s a clear beginning and end. I just don’t have the time any more to devote 90+ minutes to a sitting.

Me too on Ghost of Tsushima. I used to love open world games and wanted more of them, but now they've become chores to complete every little task. I also find myself spending a lot of time just running or driving to the next fun part of the game, instead of it always being fun.

Sports games are great, its too bad that they put little effort into their annual releases.

Ghost is so, so good. I think it’s my favorite game. Once I got over the burn out of open world and got into it I was hooked. It’s the only game I ever got to 100%, including the DLC. It’s pretty much perfect.

It was most excellent.

Sucker punch, who’s my favourite video game company, always nails the second game (Sly 2, Infamous 2). So I can’t wait for the Sequel.

Ghost of Tsushima ... isnt on x box.
GOW rag .. isnt on x box.

I need to get a PS5 it seems.
I switched back and forth between PS and Xbox for a while but bailed on Xbox after the 360. Never cared for Halo, Gears of War, or Forza — I personally always thought PlayStation had much better exclusives though I know that’s a controversial opinion.

Aren’t all Microsoft/Xbox games available on PC these days anyway? I think Game Pass was a big thing for Xbox but I like the new PS+ system.

Wife said I could get a PS5 once I get the basement refurbished.

She knows what she is doing. Thats at least a 10k project down there Ive been sitting on for a few years.

Anyone know a good carpenter/house fixer guy?

I actually have a great guy who did custom built-ins for us plus some other work. Shoot me a DM and I’ll send you his info. Are you local to the DC area?

Game music on, 100%. Maaaaybe I’ll have background music on if I’m playing a sports game but I find that the music and dialogue within the game add a lot to the experience, especially if it’s a first time play through.

When playing a game on console or pc do you:

- Have the game music on?
- Have the game music off, your music on?
- No music at all

100% game music. Soundtracks are too good and too important to the overall feel/vibe of a game for me to choose anything different.

Music off most of the time. I like to be able to hear stuff coming, what the environment and game effects are supposed to sound like, etc.

Depends on the game and the music. Sometimes the music is so bad you have to turn it off. Some of the FIFA releases were a huge PITA because you needed to constantly go into the jukebox or whatever and disable the same shitty songs after each update.

If it's a shooter or something it depends on how obnoxious it is vs the ambient noise, or if it adds to the feeling.

Overall too lazy to f*** with it unless it becomes annoying.

Pretty much in this camp. Most of the time I have it off -- a lot of games have good music but it doens't match the pace of the game. Jedi Fallen:Order, for example, has slow, moody classical music that doesn't keep pace with the fury of the gameplay. So I have it turned off.

It depends. For a AAA-style action/adventure single-player game, I'm probably listening to the game music, unless I've already played it a few times before. For other genres of games, it depends on how good and important it is to the game's aesthetic. Something like Loop Hero, I'm 100% listening to that absolute banger of a soundtrack. For games that aren't really story-driven with high replay value and/or indefinite campaigns, then I might end up listening to my own music once I get bored of their soundtracks. Think Total War, Civilization, or basically any type of strategy/city-builder/4X/puzzle game.

For a multi-player game, it varies by how important the sound is to the gameplay. For something like a shooter, I'll just have game music on because it will auto-adjust the volume during gameplay to be low enough for me to be hearing audio queues appropriately. For something like a card game (back when I played Hearthstone) or autobattler (TFT), then I might opt for my own music (or a TV show) in the background (although at least the Hearthstone soundtrack had some bangers, particularly when they re-used Warcraft 2 music for Battlegrounds).
