How can I git gud at Chivalry 2?
I have a few friends with whom I play Chivalry 2 semi-regularly. We get a music bot, mute the game volume, and blast all sorts of game/movie soundtracks as we play. Dare I say, it's a transcendent experience.
This caliber player? You're on your own. I still don't know what the hell happened. But I appreciate that it's a simple game to learn and hard to master. You instantly know when you're outclassed.
Duels are a little sweaty, especially if you're console vs PC. I prefer the 64 player conquest mode. Always use 3rd person; make sure your sensitivity is 3.5-4 (at least on controller) or you'll look like Jori Lehtera. You'll get used to it.
Don't hold block -- time it with their swing. If you hold it, you'll just get kicked which leaves you defenseless. So, kick someone holding block. If you tap block and match their swing (overhead, jab, slash) as it's coming, you get a (blue perfect) counter, which drains their stamina but not yours. Yellow counters still drain yours. No stamina = no block.
Feints are key. The ol' classic is starting a slash then quickly hitting overhead/jab. Or whatever combo you want. You're hoping your opponent tries to counter the first move, misjudges it, then it's a free hit on the second. You can also charge attacks for heavy strikes to mix up the timing -- it's ALL about timing. That includes looking down/up/left/right to accelerate or slow down your swing. Like looking at your feet on an overhead to hit faster. You can also crouch and side step to get around their block/swing.
I'm a greatsword guy myself for crowd control and reach. The trick is to get a counter when outnumbered because it gives you free parries from other attacks in your FOV for a half second. Hit that sucker and then drag across the screen. Here's one of my finer moments, you can see a lot of what I'm talking about:
