More of a PP specialist, good shot.. not really noticeable 5 on 5 . But w/ Buffalo he's better then what they have.
Probably have to be an over payment to get him as Buffalo really doesn't have depth or anybody better that can play ahead of him.

He's 26 , RFA status upcoming still.

Probably would need a player and not a draft pick.

I don't see the return that great, and I'd rather just keep him.

I don't see him as a foundational piece worth keeping around through a lengthy rebuild, IMO, you retain 50% and sell him to the highest bidder...

Baffling how many people are eager to trade away a good young player for a handful of air with a dream inside it

He's 26. He'll be 28/29 by the time the team should ideally be competing. You would need to give him a contract into his 30s in order to keep him around. That would be a classic Sabres thing to do. Especially for a guy that isn't good 5v5.

Smart move would be trading him at the deadline to a playoff team in need of PP help. I could see him fetching a 1st from a contender.

Signing a 28/29 year old winger who isn't a star long term is a great move.

Check out Matt Moulson, Kyle Okposo, Jeff Skinner,

Let's keep the tradition going shall we

Let's worry about that when they get there. It's pretty far away at this moment.

Edit: Of similar conversation points of "oh, he'll be too old by the time they are contending" used to carry water for the shit that was the O'Reilly trade. It cuts both ways - they haven't even gotten to a point where they are talking about something for him, nor is there an indication that they are going to pay him a dumptruck full of money. So in the meantime, a player who can score some goals on the roster is actually better than a lottery ticket draft pick.

He's a RFA with arbitration next year. A decision will have to be made soon. Long term deal or ship him out. Hopefully Adams makes the smart move and trades him for a high pick at the deadline instead of committing long term to a PP specialist.

Or if they do go to arbitration, then he's a UFA next deadline and they sell somewhat higher then. There is plenty of time.

Are you seriously trying to compare ROR to Olofsson? One was a top two way center signed long term. The other is a PP specialist winger who struggles 5v5.

The most important thing is the future of this team. Decisions should be made with that in mind. I wish the previous GMs sure did.

Buffalo should just hang on to him unless he wants out or someone offers the Sabres something they can't refuse.

Or even just keep him around to do what he does (score on the PP) until next year's deadline and if no reasonable contract has been reached, deal him then.

No, I'm comparing the "he won't be at his peak when they are competitive" bullshit commentary that seems to be driving your argument.
