i’d never heard of this guy three days ago but the unreasonable dreamer in me that thought byron bitz was going to be cam neely and jett woo was a poor man’s kronwall was watching friday’s game hoping that we have our own thomas harley here.

Well yeah, +/- is obviously an extremely limited stat, but as a 22 year old he's on pace for -25 in the AHL. That doesn't suggest any kind of NHL upside.

I mean, Max Sasson was a -7 in 18 AHL games and then came up to the NHL and was competently playing mid-leverage minutes.

All Mancini's +/- tells you is that he was playing big minutes on a bad team.

I've never seen him play a full game and I don't have a read on him at all but the gist seems to be that he's a guy who has come out of nowhere and has some very impressive tools but a few rough edges still. A guy like Ferraro was raving about him and Ferraro is generally a pretty good judge of talent. NYR fans liked him a lot.

If he can play 3rd pairing RHD and give the team much needed size on the right side, that's all you can hope for. Ideally, they have Hronek, Wallinder, Mancini on their RHD with Hughes, M. Pettersson (if they can extend him), Soucy, and whichever young Dman develops first, be it E. Petey, Mynio, KK to take Soucy's spot when his deal expires or he is moved.

I have to agree with the others. -7 is in the area of random noise. His career isn't filled with dominant +/- numbers you'd would hope to see but it's not full of big minuses either. I don't have the highest hopes for him, maybe 3rd pairing but if he replaced Juulsen at least something good happened.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it significant. It's Forbort level, these guys aren't valuable in the off season. They hang around outside rinks waiting for GMs to drive by and tell them to get in the back of the f150.

I disagree. If Forbort, for example, could reliably be slotted in on the bottom pair, (especially on the right side), night after night, that'd be significant. So far, the coaching staff doesn't see him that way.

If it were so easy to put together a cheap, satisfactory bottom pairing, Canucks management would have done it by now, and we wouldn't be complaining endlessly about Juulsen etc.

That's true, but given his brutal defensive metrics in his NHL games, it's not reassuring. Maybe that's just noise too, but for "toolsy" players like this people often have problems evaluating them with the eye test.

Vito sounds way cooler than Victor IMO he should go with that

Also looks like a physical beast, hopefully he has a toolbox to go with it. 5 pts in 14 games for the Rangers in his first pro time is nothing to scoff at, despite being 2 years older he outpaced other guys from his draft class like Denton Mateychuk, Owen Pickering, Lian Bichsel, and Maveric Lamoureaux in similar time

Reviews from Rangers fan seem pretty good. Some offensive upside which is odd given his college production. I like this player. Seems like a toolsy player unlike Desharnais who is just big.
