i’d never heard of this guy three days ago but the unreasonable dreamer in me that thought byron bitz was going to be cam neely and jett woo was a poor man’s kronwall was watching friday’s game hoping that we have our own thomas harley here.

Well yeah, +/- is obviously an extremely limited stat, but as a 22 year old he's on pace for -25 in the AHL. That doesn't suggest any kind of NHL upside.

I mean, Max Sasson was a -7 in 18 AHL games and then came up to the NHL and was competently playing mid-leverage minutes.

All Mancini's +/- tells you is that he was playing big minutes on a bad team.

I've never seen him play a full game and I don't have a read on him at all but the gist seems to be that he's a guy who has come out of nowhere and has some very impressive tools but a few rough edges still. I have to agree with the others. -7 is in the area of random noise. His career isn't filled with dominant +/- numbers you'd would hope to see but it's not full of big minuses either. I don't have the highest hopes for him, maybe 3rd pairing but if he replaced Juulsen at least something good happened.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it significant. It's Forbort level, these guys aren't valuable in the off season. They hang around outside rinks waiting for GMs to drive by and tell them to get in the back of the f150.

I disagree. If Forbort, for example, could reliably be slotted in on the bottom pair, (especially on the right side), night after night, that'd be significant. So far, the coaching staff doesn't see him that way.

If it were so easy to put together a cheap, satisfactory bottom pairing, Canucks management would have done it by now, and we wouldn't be complaining endlessly about Juulsen etc.

That's true, but given his brutal defensive metrics in his NHL games, it's not reassuring. Maybe that's just noise too, but for "toolsy" players like this people often have problems evaluating them with the eye test.

Vito sounds way cooler than Victor IMO he should go with that

Also looks like a physical beast, hopefully he has a toolbox to go with it. 5 pts in 14 games for the Rangers in his first pro time is nothing to scoff at, despite being 2 years older he outpaced other guys from his draft class like Denton Mateychuk, Owen Pickering, Lian Bichsel, and Maveric Lamoureaux in similar time

Reviews from Rangers fan seem pretty good. Some offensive upside which is odd given his college production. I like this player. Seems like a toolsy player unlike Desharnais who is just big.

Need to move veterans out of Abby first. Hirose, Felton, Wolanin, Ahac, Brisebois are all LHD that are still in Abby. If Pettersson gets sent down and Mynio joins the team they have 8 LHD on the team. On the right side they have McWard, Woo, Felton, Friedman, and Willander if he joins.

Moving KK on his off-side can elevate some pressure but I don't think it will be good for his development. You still need some veteran presence on that back end IMO. I hope they can trim out the fat in the farm to get to something like this by playoff-time.

Pettersson and Willander already played with eachother, Kudryavtsev/Mancini would balance eachother out, Friedman would give Mynio some veteran presence. It's incredibly difficult to pick that lineup. But that's assuming that all the prospects play. Minus McWard who has been good this season.

looking at the few highlights, it looks like he can really hit to hurt which is something that is much better than what juulsen provides today. Juulsen has master the art of hitting but not actually hurting anyone and at the same time give up grade A chances in chasing those puffy hits.

If all goes well, then the right side goes Hronek, Wallinder, Mancini. Of the 60 minutes on the RHD, you would subtract about 3 minutes a game since only Hughes play PP1 on D, so if Mancini can play 14/15 minutes, then Wallinder at 18/19 minutes, would leave Hronek at 23-25 minutes most games. Hopefully, then for Wallinder, those minutes go up over time and he can get into the low 20's.

Listening to Dangle's podcast and he's mentioned hearing quite a bit about how good Mancini is from other executives, scouts and sources. A few commented they were surprised the Rangers included him.

Not going to take long before everyone else is on board with what NYR fans, reputable intelligent hockey lifers, and now executives/scouts are indicating.

Looked impressive in the nhl this year, in the half dozen games I saw, Just not quite ready for the big show, but he's got all the tools to succeed and the toolbox, classic late bloomer dev curve.

Yeah, seems worth pointing out that his defensive numbers with the Rangers this year are horrific.

Amongst defenders with at least 150 minutes at even strength, he’s got the worst SCA/60 rate, and the second worst xGA/60, in the league. Can see why the team likes his tools but based on his results so far he is definitely a project.
