So if it's a strain it could be a couple weeks, if it's a tear what do those take 6 weeks+.

Then the decision is to trade assets for a better backup or effectively tank it this season.

Quick is still in the process of visiting with doctors to decide the best course of action of how to recover from his injury. Right now, no decision on how to proceed has been made, but Lombardi expressed the desire to have that decision made expeditiously so that it’s not “weeks,†as he said, before there’s any consensus or executive decision on how to proceed.

That sounds like they're considering surgery to me. :(

I don't see a trade even being considered.

Both Zat and Budaj can easily hold down the fort. It's not ideal, but remember this is a system that made the professor look great. It won a series against a division winner with Shcultz and a rusty Greene. As valuable as Quick is, he's the easiest replaced during the regular season. Hell, I think Gaborik's injury hurts the Kings more than this one given it's the beginning of the season.

Not much Lombardi can do. Unless Quick is out for the year, can't put him on LTIR to use the cap space, since you have to account for it when he comes back. Any deal made for any goalie, whether out for the year or back in a few months, would right now be working from a position of weakness. Just have to go with what you've got, and see how it plays out. If Zatkoff has the team going good, it's all good. If things go downhill, just let it go. Can't afford any more desperation moves.

$11m on IR with Quick and Gaborik. $6m in Brown. The Kings are working with a $56m cap right now.

If he is going to be gone for a good amount of time you still don't trade for another high price goalie.
You go and try to get Berube back from the Isles for like a third.

Lombardi also said surgery hasn't been decided one way or another, but it's one possibility. There are several other treatment options.

Hopefully it won't warrant that, and if it was the best recourse, they'd have opted for that.

And with many injuries you have to wait for swelling to go down to fully see what the damage is.
So we could have to wait a week or two to find out dang he needs surgery.
Hope that isn't the case.

I'm ok tanking for draft picks because we need to restock the cupboard and God Forbid DL make a trade giving up a redundant player. Zatkoff is not a starter but serviceable backup which gives me pause this season because he has not played a heavy schedule in the NHL. He just doesn't have the experience unless he is the next Martin Jones which can hold the fort.

I saw an analysis on LA by hockey central which I agree with, which indicated that LAs struggling offense is not built to play high scoring hockey, so any soft goals are going to be harder to make up so the Ws are going to be crucial in the beginning of the season so LA can make a run when Quick comes back. (that is an if Quick comes back since surgery is apparently on the table).

If the expansion draft wasn't happening this year and LA is in the bottom of the standings by end of the month or October, I would move along some vets for picks and bring up the kids, Mersch to give them a year experience. Since that is not the case, I suspect I will buy a few bottles of Scotch for the long winter and put my hopes in an East Coast Team and anybody playing against San Jose..... ****....

Latest on @JonathanQuick32 Bad groin injury. Surgery a real possibility. @LAKings looking at 3 to 4 months w/o #1 goalie.

if Zats and Budaj can't get it done, what options are out there? Berube/Greiss from NYI? Kuemper from Min? Neuverth from philly?

enroth so he could play those games he wanted... know he still has the gear and helmet ready.

Acquiring a goaltender would be incredibly stupid regardless of what it cost. Just roll with what you've got and pick in the middle 10 at the draft.

The Kings sure could use Kyle Connor right about now.

This. All day. Quick out eliminates a third of our core and most impactful player (as per position). Just roll with what we have. This is ****ing horrible.

Ouch! That still hurts.

And as much as I agree with you, I'd stay the course, steer the ship thru the storm. But if Lombardi feels this team can compete in the conference and potentiall go deep, as he's done over the last 2 years, he'll make a trade.
Now I think he's learned his lesson (at least I hope he has) that sacrificing youth and draft picks for a quick fix rarely works. But this question was posed to Bob McKenzie on the debut of his new podcast The Bobcast (takes questions from fans every other Friday ) and he felt since this will be months not weeks, if DL could get a low risk, low cost temporary acquisition for this year only, that would be an upgrade in the starter position, he'll do it. He felt the a guy like Pavelec would work because he's on the last yr of his deal and the Jets don't want to pay him 4M to be in the AHL. Also felt it wouldn't cost much at all.
