After yet another poor outing from Stuart Skinner last night, the Oilers need to be turning over every rock possible to find a young, cheap goalie who can take over the starting job.

Two that make sense are the Utah pair of Karl Vejmelka and Connor Ingram. I haven't seen anything about Vejmelka and UHC talking an extension, but he will be a UFA this summer and is probably due a big raise. Ingram has another year but I understand he's had a rough go in between his mother passing away and dealing with an injury. Utah also has Stauber who has showed well in his few starts, which is a nice problem to have but also probably complicates things long-term.

I assume Vejmelka would cost a ton if he's even available, but is a 3rd/4th enough for Ingram?

Either can be had since Utah likely misses the playoffs, not sure on value, maybe a second gets it done.

3rd or 4th enough for Ingram?

LOL!
Ingram will be the starter over Vejmelka soon. Utah will not trade either to a division rival and the Oilers lack the assets needed to entice the Hockey Club otherwise.
Vejmelka is also on an expiring contract and can be easily retained.
Stauber is also on an expiring contract while Ingram has 1 more year.
Expecting Utah to still be in the hunt for a playoff spot at the trade deadline anyways.
I do not believe Ingram was physically injured either.

Good thing the Oilers and UHC and not in the same division

I would trade a 2nd for Ingram in a New York minute. I also like Vejmelka although he has struggled a little as of late.

Edit: How about

Oilers 2nd
Oilers 3rd
Calvin Pickard

Connor Ingram

The Oilers get an upgrade in goal, and an additional Connor which seems to be part of their analytics strategy.

Even for a 2nd (as if they need more picks).
Utah will be on the bubble at the trade deadline, so they will not be trading a goalie within the division!!

I suggested Vejmelka when he was getting a start once a month and had no value.

He would be my dream acquisition. UFA.. low risk and high reward. Obviously Czech too because I believe the oilers need a Finn and a Czech to win a cup.lol

Let him and stu battle for playoff starter.

If Pickard and a 2nd got it done I'd be all over it. I think he may cost a first though.

Ftr.. ingrim would be another great choice.

Also.. Utah should just extend him and keep him.

If a 2nd would get it done, I'd pay that for Vejmelka in a heartbeat. I can't imagine they are ready to write the season off quite yet. They are only 4 points back from the west Wildcard spot, and Calgary could hit the skids at any time really. I expect he will be available, but not yet.

I don't think any UFA goalies realistically available should command a first. But you never know at the deadline. If the Oil decide they really need an upgrade on Pickard, they might have to pay that 1st.

+1. Count me in on this deal. We’ve decent results with our Connors.

I just don’t think 2nd and 3d round picks are any incentive for Utah. At some point you get to a saturation level with guys in your system and Utah is pretty much already there and still stacked with extra picks in that range.

If anything they need a real hockey deal. They can certainly wait for Ingram to work back into peak game form with him having another ridiculously cheap year after this one. He’s so cheap through summer of 2026 that there is no reason for them to deal him at his lowest ebb, especially when he’s been great in the past. There’s zero risk keeping him to see if he can re-find his form.

With Vejmelka you can certainly say “a pick is better than losing him for nothing” - but I’m not sure for Utah it’s better than having three more months of a second competent option in net when they’ve had 50000 2nd and 3rd round picks already.
