That's because our team has been built by an altruist (see my avatar). Even though society has realized that altruism can't exist (it's prosocial behaviors), the Ottawa Senators are the exception to the rule (again, see my avatar). We love to help others and help them turn things around. We're that generous.
Maybe it's time to become selfish assholes and think about ourselves only.
About time for JBD, it was always the right choice
Another choice I talked about before, didn't like how we didn't come back with Forsberg in the 2 games after Forsberg posted a shutout
You nailed it, and struck a raw nerve! Well done!
The Sens are more generous than good ole St Nick. They are the proverbial gift that keeps on giving! For just shy of forever, Ottawa has been the NHL's slump buster. They constantly make Venzina caliber goalies out of no-names, so Gord Wilson can break blood vessles raving wildly about each one's 2nd coming. Coincidentally the Sens possess the inverse power, the ability to turn actual Vezina winning/caliber goalies into trash. As frustrating and productive as trying to staple porridge to the wall!
I have no idea why Ottawa is able to get up for big teams and yet subsequently crap the bed against expected win / bad teams. It's an ugly long terms trend, the sign of a very immature team, but it does explain why they have not made the playoffs for so many years. The winning formula does not involve throwing away expected wins while wildly celebrating the odd win against a powerhouse team. It has been this way for so long that (to me) it points to an issue with team construction, poor chemistry. Something is not right, not around the edges they keep nibbling at but in the core they refuse to touch. We can debate where exactly that issue is, but I believe the core is the issue. Of course, better teams and players experience this issue, but for them it is short term and early. They rise above it with experience, get better, grow, become far more dependable and predictable. They do not stagnate, get stuck in neutral forever with no forward progress measurable in results, not projections, expectations or prayers. This team is fast running out of runway with this iteration of rebuild. Some might argue that door has already closed (not me). An old adage is key here... defiition of insanity is continuing to do the same things while expecting different results. It is time for some difficult decisions, culture changes.
Ok... deep breathe now WallyD...
