First game against a real cup contender. Super excited. Go leafs go.
Have you seen their record? And don’t they have a few guys injured too.. I’d wait until tampa or Boston before saying this. They are in the same area as us currently

Good. We need seriously help at RD though, not a fan of Dermott on the top pair but it's better than Holl.

Good to see Holl is replacing neither of Liljegren or Dermott. Liljegren was far too good to take out last game and he'd just get lit up even worse than Dermott would alongside Rielly. The Marlies have Biega so I'd be looking to sell on him before the league catches on to just how bad he is.

At what point does the team just try a different power play than the 1-3-1? So weird how crap the power play is with such talented players on it.

1-3-1 is standard across the entire NHL. It's really not the issue.

I think the bigger crime is not putting Spezza on the top one. You could also argue that Sandin should be swapped with Rielly.

My take:

Tavares
Matthews - Nylander - Spezza
Rielly

Ritchie
Engvall - Bunting - Marner
Sandin

Spezza is a big shooting threat and he's a fantastic puck handler. You can put him in the bumper spot too. I think Rielly has been far too hesitant in shooting or using lanes properly on the PP1. He's relying on distributing to Matthews or Marner far too often but without Marner, I think Rielly can dish to Spezza who can actually be a scoring one-timer threat instead of passing it to Marner where everyone knows what he's going to do (curl, carry, wrister blocked -- out)

Marner has struggled immensely on the PP but maybe giving him less minutes on it and a different set of players to play with might kind of jar something loose. Let him be the primary forward on it. It would be similar to when Nylander was on the 2nd PP to let him handle that unit and it kinda worked.

Could swap Sandin and Rielly but I'd rather give Sandin the horns of the PP2 with Marner since it would miss a bit of a shooting threat.

I fully back Dermott over Holl, I just don't back Rielly-Dermott.

Well I'm not sure actually how they plan to use the pairs, games will reveal, but since he's with the no.1 D, this suggests the quality of competition will be very high....I'd much rather Brodie be with Rielly for this. Pretty much sending Dermott straight to the sharks there. I don't think he's physically or mentally up to speed for that. Why not Muzzin-Dermott so he can build it up.

Holl getting the early season smack down. He might be the 7th D for a while if Lil plays well. We'll see.

I hope they keep Kerfoot on the 2nd line with JT and MM. He's not great, but he's the best answer at the moment.

Our pp2 should start first to set an example of how pp1 should play

I mean the 2nd unit looks kinda great with their 1-3-1.

Funny that Engvall looks more dangerous on the PP than anyone on the top unit.

We'll see how well Rielly-Dermott holds up against the crazy hard forechecking that Vegas brings. Will be a good test for them.

To
No Stone, No Patches, no Tuch, possibly no Nolan Patrick, possibly no Jarnmark, and no WhiteCloud Vegas is severely weakened this is an opportunity to jump on them, hopefully they can do it.
Too baad we needs to say the word "hopefully" sire. But that's the truzuth, ruth. They missing a whole lot. Even more than you listed. Also Lehner looks pretty manic in goal, not good. We have the better goaltending also. They might even play brossoit, time will tell sire.

But yeah, me too hope that tavares, johnny (our captain) will continue his murda and maybe matthews, auston can also score an ice hockey gezoal tomorrow night sire. It would be fun y'all. WE MIGHT WIN, AGAIN.

Will not be successful on PP until we have someone who can actually shoot. Not a guy looking for a tip in (although that is a good play), but a shot that people fear to block.
