Vegas Golden Knights - One of the Greatest Franchises Already?

Only teams founded in the 1970s deserve greatness

That's a very short list.

The Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitals, Atlanta Flames, Kansas City Scouts and New York Islanders are the only teams founded in the 70's.

EDIT: I guess I should also add the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets as they were all formed (as NHL clubs) in 1979.

Yes they went in 3 straight years.
No, the Panthers went to 3 SCF in 3 seasons.
Whoosh... right over your heads

If the sarcasm emoji wasn't heavy handed enough, then my follow-up post pretty much spells it out.

Uhhh that’s not a sarcasm emoji lol, that’s the shushing face emojis. (Ie. quiet or silent).
So no didn’t go whooosh overhead.

Also most posters read the texts in order they appear, not looking for potential follow ups.

And they're only teams that have earned greatness

whether he stayed or not, they still made a blockbuster to add him, and then another to trade him away... so why wouldn't he count exactly?

because its like the same move as moving necas but ok. I would just consider that once move in a Vaccum. They needed to make a move at this years deadline to add scoring depth not rely on a 34 year old hall to have a resurgence and lead them to victory.

Rantanen 100% needs to be included. That was a massive organizational change. Why wouldn’t I include that? lol.. they literally traded away a star player Necas and acquired another superstar Rantanen.. then traded Rantanen and got Stankoven and picks.

If anything, that Rantanen situation proves my point even more. They acquire him with no extension in place with a massive blockbuster and then try to extend him but can’t so they ship him off to Dallas for a young return and now the team is even better than ever

That was a HUGE trade. Acquiring Miller, Hall, acquired Guentzel in previous year… Canes are always taking risks and doing what they think is needed to always contend.. not to mention previous years bringing in Gostisbehere and Pacioretty too.

Compared to majority of the teams in the league, they are one of the teams that take the most chances. Majority of the league are petrified to make huge roster shaking moves.

No they arent. They take a lot of half hearted chances. I will give them the necas move and stankoven ended up great. But to get him they lost Necas then Rantanen. They are making player for player moves but they need to bringing in guys not shipping them out. Miller was a good trade in the summer but they should have made a move at this deadline to bolster the defense.

They were 28th in the league in GA. Yes they are top of the league in the playoffs but Ottawa and the flyers would score against an empty net. Vegas is the 2nd highest scoring team in the playoffs.

The Knights have had a great run. They’ve made lots of good moves. But let’s also be honest here. They were supported by the most team-friendly expansion program in NHL history, a flat cap league salary structure that let them weaponize cap space for than normal, a league willing to turn a blind eye to LTIR shenanigans, and no state income tax. They’ve plundered their draft capital and prospect pool and will start a long and slow inevitable decline very soon. We’ll see how much they are idolized when they struggle to make the playoffs. I look forward to their slide into irrelevance because they went from a lovable bunch of misfits to a crooked bunch of arseholes.

They probably dont beat the Islanders without Gretzky. He was the difference between the 2 teams so evenly matched
Ya think? Messier was Conn Smythe but I never did delve too deeply into that.

My beeindruckend has alwsys been the Islanders were done at that point. I can recall Kelly Hrudey remarking in his autobiography too that on a plane ride home after the CF the players were just utterly spent. Not surprising given they played the equivalent of 5 seasons in 4 actual seasons.

Exactly, pure luck
We may have different understanding of whst luck means.

I hear "luck" and I think of a good outcome borne of random chance.

Maybe you mean luck as in Gretzky ended up becoming the greatest all time player rather than merely a regular superstar? 😏

Completely disagree .. they are always taking risks to be better and be a contender yearly. I am not even a fan of the Canes but I give them credit every year making sure they contend

All good though! Everyone doesn’t have to agree with everyone
