Happy Kakko Day guys! I'll be back in the 300 section (general admission) for Day 2 of the draft. If anyone wants to get in touch you can DM me on Twitter @hockeyhotstove. I check facebook less often but you can find me there at R.G. Garcia.

Here's my draft story for the ages...I got to the Airbnb late because of traffic just dumped all my crap off and then looked at Google maps... My 30 minute trip via public transportation to the stadium suddenly said 90 mins... That puts me 30 mins late for the first pick... I call a cab. They say 3 minutes... 10 mins later they say all cabs are slammed and it'll be at least 30 more .. that puts me at pick 1 if I'm lucky....

So I literally just start asking random people for rides. I didn't know what else to do...they don't have Uber.

This incredibly nice 20 something lady took pity on me (I offered to pay her 100 dollars for a 20 min car ride). You could tell she was nervous to have some random dude in her car but we actually became fast friends... She actually weaved in and out of traffic and got me to the arena with 10 mins to spare... And then I went to take my money out to pay her and she just says forget about it, pay it forward, and drives off.

Canadians really are awesome.

Nik Bobrov took this right off of his suit and gave it to me. This has been an incredible trip...I've met so many players, management, etc.

Brady tkachuk, Cole caufield, lavoie, kaliyev, etc etc etc..

Not to mention every member of the nyr management staff.

One of these things is not like the others.

Cooper was seriously awesome...he spent time with all the fans, from all the teams. Honestly... Mad respect for him... Very friendly and very gracious.

Surprising, he comes off like such an asshole otherwise.

Bobrov giving you the pin and the story of you getting to the Arena is awesome though. Sounds like you had a blast.

@Amazing Kreiderman how long before you get Carp, JD and Bobrov on the Pod? :naughty:

You know one other thought kinda hit me just now and @Amazing Kreiderman can either tell me I'm wrong or back me up... Of the 31 teams.. and we saw them all... The only one to have basically the entire organization interact with their fans were the rangers. Just them, nobody else. Sure some key members like poile or Lou lamoriello (who was really nice and talked to this family of ranger fans for a few minutes and signed all their stuff while talking).. but in terms of the entire organization... Top to bottom. Rangers, and rangers only.... Now we were well represented which I'm sure helped.. plus being prospect nerds and more than just casual fans we actively knew everyone by name by sight and what they did within the organization so that helps... But still . I'm sure we weren't the only ones.

Says a lot about the club IMHO.

Awesome stuff above! On Day One, I took pix of my son with random prospects. We were sitting there in the audience on Day 2 and decided we wouldn't leave until all of the kids in the pix were picked (keep in mind we had no idea who some of them were, even after trying to look up players online). We figured we'd be able to identify them once their faces were flashed on the jumbo tron. Luckily, they were all off the board by the end of the third round! LOL!

One observation: The NHL does so many things right but one thing the NFL does so much better is the on-location experience at the draft. When I went to the NFL draft a few years ago, they handed out earphones to everyone entering the venue and they were tuned to the NFL Network's broadcast of the draft (or maybe it was ESPN's) so you could hear the draft coverage and watch it on the jumbo tron. At the NHL Draft, there was nothing going on in between picks in the arena except a few highlights for some players and lousy stadium music. When you're stuck in an arena seat, that's a less than optimal situation and I hope the NHL changes that in the future.

All in all, it was awesome! Seeing the Rangers pick Kakko in person was a thrill! The access to the draft eligible players is way cool. And we even got to meet Stat Guy Steve! :)

I'm glad everyone had a good time. It's tough to explain to people who may say "what fun is it to go there in person to hear names called when you can just do that on TV while following any rumors online" but the draft is such a cool experience. The ability to run into so many people involved in the game on the concourse from reporters to coaches to general mangers to prospects etc. Plus they always have interactive stuff set up as well. I cant' wait until it comes back to the area soon.

Sorry I missed you guys there. It was a blast though. On day 1 we got to sit down low by a couple of players. We were right behind the Newhook boys who went crazy and they actually got a shot of me and my buddy on TV. I think my favorite part of the weekend was seeing Brady Tkachuk playing low limit table minimum blackjack at the casino - I was embarrassed for him haha.
@Amazing Kreiderman happy you were able to meet those guys and get the shout outs that you did - that’s amazing. I also have my ticket if you want it, just PM me your address and I’ll send it to you.
@Inferno nice list of people for you as well.

To anyone who is thinking about attending future drafts - do it. Don’t think just do it. It’s a giant fan fest and it’s fun as hell. I’m already booking my tickets for Montreal next year - don’t even care where the Rangers pick or even if they have a pick at all, I’m going.

I still want to hear @Amazing Kreiderman draft stories! What did you talk to Brobov about? Is he going to be on your podcast? Does anyone know the story behind Dorofeyev's fall? So many people were so sure about him and yet we decided to go for Zach Jones over him. Curious about that one.

Listen to my latest episode and you'll know. I still can't believe Bobrov and Drury said those things man
