other than adding hughes almost as soon as he entered the league, my all time canucks team hasn’t changed in a long time. but man i think it’s time to change it.

mogilny pettersson bure
sedin sedin miller
naslund linden bertuzzi
burrows kesler smyl

hughes ohlund
hamhuis jovanovski
snepsts salo

luongo
demko

demko replaces mclean finally

petey’s datsyukian abilities make him the perfectred army style center between mogilny and bure (think: larionov or fedorov)

and i think i now have to have miller as the burrows with the sedins. i have never liked him but dialed in jtm would be great as an alex burrows puck retrieval hound: smart enough to play off the sedins, high enough motor and good enough defensively to get back and cover for them, and what you lose on the downgrade from burrows’ all time hockey iq and defensivel ability you get back with superior offence.

my only thing is i DO NOT trust a team with both jtm and bertuzzi on it. but if my coach and GM are big pat quinn, and tocch is an assistant, maybe that’s enough of a threat of taking them into the tunnel for fistfight to keep them in line

on d, hamhuis maximizes jovo like he did with casual kev, and you have to have salo for the slapshot on the pp. could have gone with several guys as to form a shutdown pair with salo: snepsts, my fav gerald diduck, or mitchell, who with salo briefly was the best canucks shutdown pair i’ve ever seen. but f*** willie mitchell. but if not for the slapshot i would have gone snepsts with diduck as my big snarly shutdown third pair

i think you have the exact right players for forwards, but i'd tweak the lines slightly

mogilny - pettersson - bure
sedin - sedin (c) - burrows
naslund - miller - bertuzzi
linden - kesler - smyl

hughes (a) - tanev
ohlund - salo
hamhuis - bieksa (a)

luongo
demko

that third line, as you said, has full bozo potential at any time... but they're a third line. when on, that would also be the first line on this roster. i think JT's playmaking and motor would basically have him play as BMo+++

but the other problem with jt is that AV is still the head coach of this team, lol.

on d, i'm doing the team canada proven pairing model, assuming you're getting the best version of each guy. current hughes with 2014 tanev? whew. 2004 iginla fighting, koivu chopping ohlund with healthy salo?? olympic hammer with serious kev?

I like that one, but...replace Burr with Cam Neely, replace Smyl with Tony Tanti and get Paul Reinhart in over Bieksa and thats my lineup.

messier deserves to be in here doesn’t matter if you like him or not
Depends on the criteria. Messier wouldn’t crack our all time roster if it is just based on the quality of play when the player was a Canuck. I would agree with your post if it’s about players who played for the Canucks but applies to their prime generally though.

It's crazy how in about ~2-3 seasons, depending on injuries, the Canucks should have four new Canucks in their top-10 scoring all-time:

Petttersson
Miller
Boeser
Hughes

will likely displace
Bure
Tanti
Bertuzzi
Horvat

Pettersson should do it this year, Boeser and Miller could do it next year, and Hughes probably does it in year three

i used to always cheat and use post-prime larionov with mogilny and bure, and pre-prime neely with the sedins.

the idea is neely when he left was a summer away from being an elite power forward, and larionov was resuscitated to scoring a pt a game from bure’s first game to the end of his rookie season. so the talent was there, it just needed hall of fame talent at its peak to draw it out.

but with petey and jtm playing not dissimilar styles to those guys while being legitimate top ten scorers, we now have non-cheat linemates for the russians and the twins.

Same reason I think Neely doesn't qualify and Mogilny is borderline.

There is no "cheating" if there are no rules set. ;)

My bad…I thought we were building the best lineup made of players who played for the Canucks….my best roster would have Cam Neely with the Sedins.

i've always seen it as "at their best in a canucks jersey" which is why sundin, neely, m*ssier, etc. aren't thought of

The season's half over and he's already put together probably a top-10 all-time D-man performance by season, and 4 others belong to him.

my team:

Sedins-Burrows
Naslund-Pettersson-Bure
Miller-Kesler-Bertuzzi
Smyl-Boudrias-Linden
Hughes-Salo
Ohlund-Jovanovski
Lumme-Edler
Luongo
McLean

A combo of players who no doubt deserve to be there, with some newer guys who I think after all are said and done will be the same, and then maybe a player or two would I just really have fond memories watching them play.

This is actually a fascinating thread. It's so hard to compare across eras. I think it's best to rank players amongst their contemporaries and try to do some kind of adjustment for ranking of team in a season. Thomas Gradin is a good example. He was one of my favourite players and had a great 81/82 season, his best. But he wasn't even in the top 30 in league scoring that year. That said, he played on mostly middling teams for his entire career and had to carry most of the offensive load. The flip side is Burrows, a great player in his own right. But he benefited enormously from the players/line-up depth that were around him.

Sedin - Sedin - Linden
Mogilny - Pettersson - Bure
Naslund - Larionov - Bertuzzi
Miller - Kesler - Smyl
Burrows

Hughes - Lumme
Ohlund - Jovo
Babych - Hamhuis
Bieksa

Luongo
McLean

Hourable mention: Gradin, Tanti, Ronning, Adams, Sundstrom, Edler, Courtnall, Mitchell, Snepts, Tanev, Demko, Morrison

Excluded but would definitely make it if at least a large part of their careers were with the Canucks: Neely, Reinhart

This is totally ridiculous! Coulombe was a defenseman.
