Lots to complain about in regards to Benning, his history of trading away any 1st round picks isnt one of them. It got them:

JT Miller
Conor Garland

The value is there but was the risk worth it? This team is not trending in the right direction and there's no more youth in the pipeline to give us any further hope. We're already missing our 2nd this year and Lord knows what happens with our 1st while Benning digs in further.

This franchise is a mess and trading away 1sts is not working out. Just because the value is acceptable doesn't mean it was a good trade.

Seeing the Pittsburgh UFA thread, I wonder if Benning is really looking for a "3C", or would rather bring in an aging superstar at the expense of Podkolzin, our firsts, DiPietro, Rathbone, Lockwood and Klimovic.

Different context, every time he tries to save his job he trades away a big piece of future.
Right now the team’s PK is dog shit

True, the other 24 picks he’s dealt have hurt though.

Rasmuss Anderson says hello

Canucks didnt deal Anderson they dealt the pick. who knows if Anderson was even in their radar.

Why pick Anderson? Might as well say the Canucks traded Kaprizov, Cirelli, Garland etc since all those guys were available with that pick.

You just made a very reasonable argument as to why you don’t deal picks… who knows who you may have gotten with the pick.

Certainly of the 25 picks Benning has delay in 8 years 8-10 of those players would be nhl players and maybe 3-5 high end players….

Build through the draft, every good team in the nhl does it.

Canucks have already built through the draft. They need a GM now that can finish the roster

Pettersson
Hughes
Horvat
Demko
Boeser
Hoglander
Podkolzin

I'm not advocating they trade their 1st round pick, but I wouldnt be opposed to it ( protected of course) if they can land a stud young RD.

Then they need to have good scouting and player development with the rest of their late draft picks.

Please don’t.

We all know it’s coming but after that (de)presser this morning, Nucks fans need something to hold onto.

Our prospect pool is one of the worst in the league, the point is we could have had an Anderson instead of the nothing we have now, even the Miller trade, if we continue to be a pile of garbage, he is gone next season and we traded away a player who could be on an ELC and contributing well after he goes. This is the problem, quick fixes don't work in the long run, even if we win in the (kind of) short term, you don't do these things if your not a contender.

i dont care about prospect pools when our roster is filled with u25 players we can build around for the next decade. prospects are magic beans. Then you also have guys like Hoglander and Podkolzin who are 20 yrs old

We also have promising player in the system

Rathbone
Klimovich
Lockwood
Woo
Dipetro

Maybe 2 of those guys become NHL regulars, which only adds to my point, we need more prospects not less, we are not even a playoff team right now.

ESPECIALLY our blue line, which is one of the worst in the league and we have Rathbone and Woo, the latter of which looks as though he will be a career AHLer.

You really should care about prospects pools when you see how bad this team is and has been and how much they completely lack when it comes to young players, especially Dmen.

The core you want to build around won't stick around for much longer too if this team doesn't fix itself.

Michael Rasmussen and Filip Zadina for Vancouver's 1st and Nils Hoglander. :sarcasm:
