Confirmed with Link: Vanacek to Florida Panthers for Giles

Patrick Giles is in year one of a two-year, league minimum deal, and is waiver-exempt. He will be an RFA at the expiration of his deal.

He is a very big right-handed winger (6'5", 215), not a lot of scoring acumen. I haven't seen him play, I assume he's a depth grinder.

Vanecek holds little to no value with contract/performance.

That said it probably makes more sense to just keep Vanecek for this return unless there is another deal out there to take on someone like Jarry for compensation and run him with Askarov as a tandem for a couple years while the rookies are cheap.

Otherwise, feels redundant to have Walker Duehr 2.0 after just waiving Walker Duehr 1.0 yesterday.

I see absolutely no reason to make this deal. Who is the backup now? Are we bringing in another goalie?

What’s the point of this other than maybe a favor to Vanacek? But then bring back Dreidger instead of another AHL body who can’t score.

That's kind of how I feel about it. Big Money Mike just repeating "we have Tom Wilson at home" doesn't make it any more true the second time

A 6'5" guy from Boston College. How perfect.
Also crossed over with Warsofsky in Charlotte I believe (although I didn’t actually check). This is really a nothing return but oh well. Vanecek is expensive and injury prone so wasn’t expecting much

Taking a look at Giles NHL stats this year and not too much to be excited about. Hopefully he's a good locker room presence.

29.8% Faceoff percentage on 47 draws... 0 takeaways to 5 giveaways... but 16 hits in 9 games is alright for a 7:23 ATOI

Yeah, I forgot about Kunin. Playing better this year, but I’m tired of hearing about how much he embodies the way the Sharks should play. I’d rather the players embody Celebrini.
I agree. I'm hoping this sort of deal is designed to have Giles play in Kunin's place when he is dealt...at least in terms of roster spot. After tomorrow's game, I'm hoping the lines end up being something along the lines of...

Eklund-Wennberg-Toffoli
Zetterlund-Celebrini-Smith
Kovalenko-Dellandrea-Graf
Kostin-Goodrow-Grundstrom

Yeah, it sucks and Giles can probably get in for Grundstrom or Kostin but it's moving the team forward.
