Perhaps. But with the age of the sharks core, when Goldobin is hitting his stride and actually making a impact your core is on the way down.

You have to go for it. When your cup window is open, you have to give up some futures to strengthen your chance at that silver mug.

Or it's guys like him, Meier, Hertl, and others that are replacing those core players thus extending said window.

personally, i think that hansen has been vancouver's best forward the last few years (considering horvat and the sedins defensive deficiencies). He just isn't hype-inducing or put up massive numbers. Every line that he gets placed on instantly becomes the best line on the team. Has a bit of alfredsson in him, obviously without the high-end skill.

wat?

It's kids like Goldobin that ends up extending your windows. That's the issue that some Sharks fans are going to have with this.

Fair point. I still think with guys like Sorensen, Meier, Labanc...that the future is still bright and they will become key players for us.

Nice to know! I am super excited to see him in action tomorrow. It's gotta be so weird to play against your former team in your first game with your new team.

I agree it does make the transition for the future easier. But at the same time, when you have Burns, Thornton, Pavelski, Couture, etc, ready to win NOW, it's hard to not go all in to get to the ultimate goal.

If the Canucks had won the cup in 2011, this rebuild would be a hell of alot less painful than it is. I can guarantee every canucks fan would have traded every pick and prospect we had for 10 years if it meant we won the cup.

You are in the extreme minority with this opinion.

This trade is a win/win for both sides. The Sharks window for the cup is NOW. Take it from us canucks fans. That window closes fast. Hansen makes the Sharks alot mor3 dangerous. I really like this trade for both sides

Goldobin was a 1st pick!!!!!
If the sharks won the cup ....the 4th change for a 1st pick

Two 1st pick for Hansen???? it is fair????For a rental player????are you serious????

If Hansen won the Conn Smythe!!!I will be happy but i doubt!!!!

Hansen isn't a rental player.

And if the Sharks win the cup, the 4th rounder becomes the 31st overall pick. If you win the cup who cares about the 31st pick?

Hansen has been one of my favorite players since his Winterhawks days. The guy is a fast, hard working, two-way player who does everything well except score. He's a toolbox player who can play on both special teams and is a great component of an elite team's bottom six. He's not necessarily gritty but he's a hard nose player who doesn't back down. The only knock on him is he will drive you insane with his offense. He'll flub a golden opportunity every game. Hansen's skill will consistently put him in golden positions to score but there's some short circuit in his brain that makes him flub. But it makes the 10-15 goals he scores every year all the sweeter. Probably the best and most prototypical "third line player" I've ever seen come through the Canucks organization.

I wish him the absolute best with the Sharks.

I have no idea where this narrative came from but it is absolutely false. And go ahead, disagree with me. But the numbers are heavily in my favour.

Hansen has one season scoring above 16 goals in his career. That one season he spent most of with the Sedins...

i know if you won the cup the 1st is the 31st total but it's not a reason to throw it by the window

Please elaborate

2016/2017: 3rd on team in ES goals/60.
2015/2016: 1st on team in ES goals/60.

No one on the Canucks is even close to his ES goals production in the past 2 seasons combined:

Hansen: 23 ES goals in 94 games (.245 ES GPG)
Baertschi: 23 ES goals in 118 games (.195 ES GPG)
Daniel: 24 ES goals in 143 games (.168 ES GPG)
Horvat: 22 ES goals in 142 games (.155 ES GPG)

He scored 22 goals in 67 games last season. 1 of those goals was a PP goal. He has 2 career PP goals.

In his past 295 regular season games, he has scored at a .275 GPG rate. Thats a 23 goal pace over an 82 game season in his past 300 games! This guy is a legit scorer. 23 goals is top 6 in todays NHL.

Lets stop with the whole "Hansen's great but he can't score" bull ****. It's so outdated and outright wrong.

I also saw another poster say he had a terrible shot yesterday (it was a Canucks fan too). Well, to that I once again say you couldn't be more wrong:

It's only 2m not 3, also "deepth" as you put it is important in today's NHL.

He's a good player, try watching him.

Still no reason to not create a bidding war. I'm sure a teams offer not on Hansen's list could be used to make a team on his list pay more to make sure they get him.

Ehh. I can't see us getting much better than this. If we didn't bite, San Jose may have went elsewhere and we'd lose out on Goldobin.

Please stop.

You clearly have no ****ing idea what you're even talking about bro.

Calling Hansen a rental, then calling him over paid, you know nothing, so why keep arguing about a subject you have no knowledge in?

:handclap:

Hansen's always been underrated. I'd just as soon have kept him tbh. Admittedly I'm not familiar with Goldobin, time will tell if it was a good trade for Van or not. Sharks fans generally seemed high on him, so that's encouraging i guess. 20% retained seems unnecessary, but hey.

What's abstract about even strength scoring per 60 minutes? Over a large sample size?

23 goal pace over last 300 games with literally zero PP time. Super complicated I know.

Mainly playing on the first line with the Sedins when this team was a bottom feeder and the coach was an idiot. Look at his stats this season when he regressed to his mean. Look at his lifetime stats. You can put lipstick and dress on a pig, but it's still a pig. You can dress up Hansen however you want, he's still a third line grinder that frustratingly whiffs a lot.

Do you even watch the Canucks? Hanson has looked great this year. Before his injury he looked like our best player.
