The difference between Bains and Sprong isn't enough to move the needle. The Canucks are a business after all, and having someone named Bains on the roster is good for that business.

Also, I get the general sense the Canucks like the guy, like his work ethic, and want to keep investing in him.

I liked him. A stupid signing cuz it was obv that Tocchet wouldn't like him. I'd take a Hoglander or Sprong any day before Bains or whoever Tocchet has a hard on for.

Oh joy...

Don't see what Aman has done this season to merit a call-up. Is Raty out for some reason?

I imagine Bains is filling in for Boeser. And Joshua or Aman are on the 4th line...or they need Aman to just sit in the press box.

Probably running:
Suter - Petey - Garland
Hogs - Miller - DeBrusk
Heineken - Blueger - Sherwood
Bains - Raty - Aman
Joshua and Boeser scratches

That 4th line will be sheltered, or they put Bains with a higher line and move Suter/Hoglander down to manage the 4th line.

Yeah, Shorthouse mentioned that play because it stuck out like a sore thumb. pretty much confirmed that the player, in his 10th year, with 350+ games under his belt, hasn't learned how to pick his spots.

It was worth a shot to see if this leopard could change his spots....and now he's someone else's problem.

Need to put Miller and Heineken back together.

2) Jonathan Lekkerimaki’s five-goal-in-seven games start at AHL Abbotsford has the Canucks thinking his time is coming sooner than later, which was bad news for Daniel Sprong. His lineup spot was already tenuous, and there was a drop pass in the third period of Thursday’s win over Los Angeles that probably caused Rick Tocchet to eat a full roll of Tums. The interesting thing about his trade to Seattle is that the Canucks could have waived him, and there are only six teams ahead of the Kraken in priority. That tells us: Seattle wanted to make sure it got him, and the Canucks — who accepted nothing in return — made sure he got there. That’s doing someone a favour.

Tocchet gave Miller and Kuzmenko way more chances than Sprong and way more time. Not his decision obviously but if it worked out with one then why not give it time with another. We have the depth - though maybe his Power Play totals were not enough. However, the team has results in spite of games looking terrible.
Too soon.
I would have guessed this was a deal to accomodate him to Seattle where he's still wanted but the agent throws off that idea.

either way, can never forget this

Loved how the 4th line skated fast opening up the game a bit more for the other lines to capitalize on. I thought Hoglander-Raty-Sprong was excellent last game. Speed on the 4th line is awesome to see, but Bains, Aman, Raty are all younger than Sprong and waiver exempt. With Joshua coming back Sprong would’ve been paid to sit in the press box.

Sprong simply wasn't a 'third-fourth line' player.....even though the Canucks were forced to make him one.

At this point, Aman and Bains probably deliver next to nothing offensively. But Tocchet trusts them in that depth role....it's really that simple.

I just dont see it with guys like Bains and aman at the nhl level, giving ice time to someone I see developing is fine if there banging down the door, but whenever I see Bains at the nhl level or aman, I see an Ahl player. I liked sprong, thought he brought speed and a goal scoring aspect this team lacks. I liked the 4th line, but clearly Tocchet cant get passed some of his hang ups.
