Thats not generally a good way to justify spending more money than you should be IMO.
Rebuild the defense, go from there.

Won't argue with that....it's long overdue.Rebuild the defense, go from there.

I always fear the "Myers effect"...he's played well as Hughes' partner for the most part, but I've been waiting for the bottom to fall out...if he can maintain that level of play, it would be huge, but thats not something I have a lot of faith in...having 4 actual top 4 defenders would certainly be nice...hoping Mancini can get a shot.Hughes, Hronek and Pettersson is basically our top 3.
Myers, Soucy and Forbert covers the remaining bottom 6.
Whoever is back up will get in, except Juulsen.
Send him to the Chevron near the Langley Bypass
Projected to have 80M in cap when Quinn’s deal is up. We don’t really have that many long term deals.Depends on cost...we basically handcuffed ourselves in negotiations with him. If they don't re-sign him they're going to look pretty foolish making that trade. So I wouldn't think we're going to be seeing anything resembling a bargain contract when we ultimately re-sign him.
Couple of quick notes as I lay in bed and refuse to get up.
-Canucks didn’t have negotiating rights but intend on extending both Pettersson & O’Connor
-expended to start contract negotiations with them this weekend
-view Forbort and Suter as internal rentals
-don’t want to extend Boeser to 8 years but likes him and are considering their options
Forbort and Suter aren’t worth enough to really worry about flipping. Maybe if you’re extremely lucky you get a low 2nd for Suter and Forbort is like one of those 5th round depth trades. I expect them to make offers to sign for both though.
What do they mean "internal rentals"?
Suter I agree. Forbort is the kind of player they’ll use up and replace next season. As another free agent or let one of their rookies take the reigns.
I think he means players already on the team, on expiring contracts the team won't trade. What do they mean "internal rentals"?
Saying Chytil is a good 2nd line centre is a pretty big reachYeah a good second line center and a good second pairing defenseman isn't that bad for a 1st line center
Add in Willander at the end of the year and that's one hell of a defense.I'm excited to Ice 4 or 5 competent dmen.
Hughes - Myers
Pettersson - Hronek
Soucy - Mancini

I don't mind paying the guy what he's due, I just get concerned about overpaying based on his leverage and for what he brings...if we're getting into the $6.5-$7.5m range, I'm not sure that's very good value for his skillset. He might fit like a glove and be everything we need and more and my concerns could be totally unwarranted...hoping so.Projected to have 80M in cap when Quinn’s deal is up. Pay top4 top6 players what they are worth and mine value at the lower end.I don't mind paying the guy what he's due, I just get concerned about overpaying based on his leverage and for what he brings...if we're getting into the $6.5-$7.5m range, I'm not sure that's very good value for his skillset. They didn't have an understanding of Pettersson's demand pre trade? Wow.
Pens could’ve given permission. It’s not the first time JR has negotiated with his agent so given their history, I don’t think we should worry too much about it.Wouldn't that technically be tampering?

But what is he worth? With the new cap projections (which I find difficult to believe will be accurate in 2 years time) what is a reasonable contract for him? I'd probably be ok with a 6x5.5 or maybe 6x6...but if he gets more than that its value is diminishing in a hurry.Pay top4 top6 players what they are worth and mine value at the lower end.
If anything long term contract to bring the AAV down wouldn’t be a bad idea especially in a cap world of 110M+.
