Confirmed with Link: [VAN/Pit] Vincent Desharnais, Danton Heinen, Melvin Fernstrom, & 1st (NYR) for Marcus Pettersson (LD) & Drew O'Connor (W)

The management team hated Miller so much they got themselves 3 Petterssons.

Jokes aside,

I'd loved to hold onto the 1st from NYR,
this season is a wash anyways so might as well see what you can get in the off-season.
The aforesaid 1st could potentially turn into a unprotected 1st as well, increasing in value.

This move just kinda screams Blueberry Boi meddling imho,
very short-sighted if you will.

Hoglander Pettersson Boeser
DeBrusk Chytil Garland
Joshua Suter Sherwood
OConnor Blueger PDG

Hughes Myers
Pettersson Hronek
Soucy Forbort

The forwards are disgustingly soft and thin

Reminds me of the Nashville Predators. You got an elite defenseman who runs of the offense surrounded by maybe 1-2 decent guys and a ton more low skilled grinders/warm bodies.

f***ing boring team that will go nowhere. We really need to draft a talented exciting forward.

This regime just bleeds value constantly and has since day 1. We overpay or undercharge for almost every transaction.

Trading the NYR 1st for Pettersson is a big L. Knew it was going to happen and knew it would be stupid before it happened. Should have been our pick or the higher of the two this year.

Actually it should have been Mynio or Kudryavtsev and a 2nd because EP2 is taking the 3rd paring LD spot and those two won't unseat him so why bother holding on to them at the cost of what could be a 2026 1st.

Two bad trades in a row.

We sold at the absolute bottom on Miller because of a crisis that our own mgmt either caused or spent half a season publicly pouring gasoline over it.

And the defense was only a dumpster fire in the first place because of mgmt's total incompetence with the defense over summer.

There were so many better ways to have handled this year and fixed things. Trade our 1st for Pettersson in November before everything boils over and we're probably comfortably in a playoff spot right now. Make smarter choices in summer or when players moved almost for free this year and we don't get forced into this situation at all. Don't tell Miller to get on EP's ass, literally the dumbest advice ever that even Benning wouldn't have advised.

Yes we will be a better team this year. Yes we desperately needed Pettersson. Hopefully he meets expectations and we extend him to a reasonable deal. The issue isn't the acquisition it's the cost, the constant bleeding of value, and the godawful handling of every situation that put us into this position in the first place.

Thank god we got rid of Heinen and Desharnais at least. Holy f*** such useless dogshit players.

But to include the 1st round pick you got for your 100 point depreciating C is disgusting. That pick would’ve been much better served getting us a needlemover. Marcus Pettersson isn’t a needlemover.
What was so bad about Heinen ? He was brought in for his advanced stats

They made a mistake and moved on, yes it would be awesome that every signing they make hits but that’s a crazy high bar.
At least they moved on and didn’t double down.

They've been absolutely ruthless when their signings or acquisitions aren't working out, whether inherited from previous management (Dickinson, OEL, Pearson) or their own (Mikeyev, Kuzmenko, Heinen, Desharnais). Its definitely a plus that they didn't double down on their guys cause it might make them look bad if they moved their recent FA's.

Luckily they are keeping the players/signings that have worked out.

Feels like we've basically converged to a Calgary level roster. Especially if Petey doesn't step up.

The team isn't done but the only asset they have left (until Boeser is traded) is their 1st and cap space. Can they really add a difference maker to salvage the season?

Head spinning day.

Started looking thru potential mid-level 2025 draft choices and quicker than you can flip thru web sites the pick is gone.

Glad as hell that Desharnais and Hienen salaries are off the books but you wonder why they were there in the first case.

Think the positive vibes around Canuck management have stopped given the way off season pick ups have turned out so badly.

Team gets more Swedish every day.

Whole thing will take awhile to dissect.

He’s not physical at all and can only move the puck via passing. Not going to carry the mail himself. Defense is his calling card, he is kinda like a wet blanket/wet paper bag (whatever term you prefer) style in his own zone - in a good way. Teammates love him.

Great bottom 6er that looked like he was going to be more than that at one point. Good athlete that hustles his butt off. Not overly physical but plays hard and strong. Can play C in a pinch. If he’s the 3rd best player in your bottom 6 you have a strong bottom 6.

He has 709 hits in 491 games, ever time I watch him, he's involved physically around the net and good at protecting the front of the net.

I wouldn't call him a great fighter, but he's still willing, He's fought Deslauriers, Nurse, S. Bennett, Tom Wilson.

Not too many canucks are tough enough to fight Wilson.

If we had to nitpick his transition game is probably his weakness, but pair him up with say Hronek can work well.

He's timing in his defensive zone is good, seen him time a lot of blocks and stick checks well.

Last season, I thought he also improved his offensive zone game, was able to hold the puck better on the blueline. He's not an offensive dman.

All in all, team guy that should be a strong #4, pair him up with Hronek who is more offensively gifted and potentially that's a good 2nd pairing in the NHL. Should be an upgrade on Soucy.

If Willander hits, him and Hughes can potentially be another pair.

if boeser walks in free agency this team is going to look really thin next year. i don't really see how they get even to playoff calibre with the group they've got now given what they have available to trade

the defense is probably okay assuming they retain pettersson but the forward depth is awful even if suter returns. you can't run garland, debrusk, hoglander and lekkerimaki as your top 6 wingers and expect to compete

This was the downside of JR/Allvin in PIT.

Obv you take it with the success we had but he doesn’t give a shit about asset management when it comes down to it.

The silver lining for you all is not a lot of the prospects and picks we bled from him wheeling and dealing really amounted to a ton.

Hit the nail on the head. Sold low on Miller. Bought high on Pettersson. This isn't a Hronek type deal acquiring a young RFA. Pettersson is going to be a 29 year old UFA and on the decline. Complete buffoons running this franchise and I honestly don't know why I even bother following this team anymore. Yes it's getting to that point.

Boeser won’t have the chance to walk. By how management seems to be moving, I’d bet there’s a hard deadline on Boeser’s extension well before the trade deadline, and they’ll flip him for another futures package and re-flip those futures.

Yeah just lock the draft thread. Say good bye to our 1st rounder. We have 6M in cap right now, does anyone really think they won’t make another move. If there is another Guentzel type of guy that shakes loose on the last day, we’ll probably pounce on that.

So with this trade, you can’t move Boeser as it’s clear they want playoffs. So are we re-signing Boeser and M Pettersson?
They can move Boeser because it's clear that management wants to get faster up front and have never been completely sold on him.
