Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

I guarantee things behind the scenes were bad. The simple fact that we know what we know is all the evidence we need. We rarely get the type of info that's leaked, so for what has come out to have come out for sure tells us all we need to know about Miller and what type of teammate he is. He is obviously a good hockey player. But his attitude is piss poor and I dare say cancerous. His contract is also disgusting. The back half of it is going to be gross.

The simple fact they were able to get somebody to take that contract and get a 1st back is pretty remarkable. I really think this was a great trade for Van. It will look even better in 4 years when miller is a 3rd/4th liner.

Even though he just got 103 points?

I get that he has a history of being a known malcontent, but he still put up those numbers. They still re-signed him knowing what he was. They viewed it as valuable. How come that view wasn't shared by the Buyers? Why do it now when the 4 Nations and the TDL was around the corner? They didn't have to.

Horvat's a nice player and I didn't mind the guy, great on faceoffs and takes advantage of his zone starts, but Hronek would fetch more than him on the trade market right now.

Horvat is the better player.

Again, if that is the best return we got, then we can tell Petterson to suck it up, its not a big request as he is earning more than 10 million dollars per year.
Apparently he has been for however many years.

What we know, again, is that the team sent Miller home for a month because of an incident with team personnel (the reporting is it was with Tocc).

That kinda says it all. The club had been fed up with JT's antics to such a degree they had to tell him to get lost for a month and cool off.

If this is what a Miller return looks like, I hate to see what a Pettersson trade will look like. I'm actually terrified of it now. Allvin isn't looking so shiny this season compared to last.

Anyways Chytil is a decent player but like everyone said, he's one hit away from retirement. I do like the first rounder and Mancini is decent but the trade could of been better if management just had the patience and waited. Wait until the offseason if you had to. Love the cap space and the fact that the Rangers ate All of the contract, that is nice.

Pettersson better step it up, or he will be traded to Pittsburgh for Pettersson and Rust.

Not stoked but I will wait and see what this first rounder turns into before I really freak out.

All the best to JT Miller, thanks for all the memories excluding this season.

A little bit lacklustre of a return, eh.

But look on the bright side: in 2019 the Canucks traded futures for a 26-year-old JT Miller, who went on to score 437 points in 404 games for the Canucks. They then trade him at age 31 for more futures that should turn out to be better than the ones that brought him to Vancouver.

The best situation would always have been for everyone to get along and have a core of Miller/Pettersson/Hughes/Demko. Unfortunately that ship sailed and we had to sell low.. I don't think we had an out here - at some point you have to pivot and get the ball rolling in the right direction... sooner rather than later.
we are win now mode, the last thing ANY Canuck fan wanted was our best forward in the last 4 year. For me I was waiting all year long to see how our real team goes with the FULL ROSTER. not half assed roster with injuries here and there. We finally have our full roster, OOOFFFF COURSE we win 3 straight with Hronek back, MIller is playing, Demko is healthy, we are finally seeing the real Canucks, but unfortunately sometimes things happen. Sigh..... we have to move on though.... lets hope for the good.

Not stoked but I will wait and see what this first rounder turns into before I really freak out.
we're probably gonna trade one of them.

What value would you get from Kreider or Lindgen? Rangers fans want to give them away for free.
You are conflating Rangers’ fans’ desire for a rebuild/change with the value of the player in a trade. Lindgren is a defensive Dman on an expiring contract who has been logging top 4 minutes. I don’t want him but if healthy that’s an easy trade at the deadline. Kreider is aging but can still score goals and has a history of strong playoff performances. At $6.5M with two more years left a team looking to win now would be interested. Heck, we reportedly wanted to acquire him. Chytil is a huge LTIR risk and isn’t better than Kreider even right now given their age differences.

About the level I expected. And our cap situation is better. Please don;t waste this 1st like we have so many others. Show some Fing patience for a change. We are going to be fans for years, stop being knee jerk idiots that trade assets for borderline stop gap repairs that age badly.

We were never getting a top center for JT. The hope is the one we have bounces back, and we just need to fill in the #2 slot (Which hopefully Chytil can step into the shoes of).

You guys do realize the quitting Miller was doing in his own end was all shit that other teams' scouts were watching, yeah?
We definitely could have got better value for a top 20 centre locked up to a great contract in an unprecedented rising cap era. Chyitl is broken and a good 3rd line centre on a contender. Again we got worse now and in the near future. They better have Hughes in on the loop and what the plan is else he's gone.

Agreed. But Pettersson returning to form, simply because Miller isn't there to be tough on him, isn't a great look from a franchise cornerstone. MacKinnon was an a**hole to play with but it's not like Makar or Rantanen just hid in their shells. In a way, it's sort of a lose-lose situation.
When you let a cry baby get its way, why would it stop crying

Miller has been run out of every dressing room he's ever been a part of, and no reason to think that will change. He'll probably start bullying Zibanejad now because he makes more money and is Swedish.

I've seen this repeated a couple of times but what is the basis for it?

oof a pretty low return

otoh, if alvin can magically flip that first for another hronek level player…

because i felt just as gut punched by the horvat trade

This return is literally worse than the worst-case scenario I could have envisioned.

The best thing they got was the cap space.

Seattle got a better main asset back from the Rangers for Will Borgen.

Kakko didn't have an NMC and wasn't destroying a promising core, though.

And it could have been much, much worse. I suspect Miller was only going to waive for NYR, so we got Keslered again. There's no retention on the contract, Brannstrom was never playing here again and Chytil is at the very least a serviceable 2C.

Cap space is indeed the best part of this deal, as is not having a malcontent declining player for the next seven years at a high cap hit.

What worries me is Pete is in the cross hairs now. If this doesn't work out (it won't) well the shield that JT Miller was doesn't exist anymore. Goodluck...
What worries me is that Canucks medical staff was not shipped off posthaste to nowheresville for future considerations consisting of a stale Ferrero Roche chocolate found under Torts' cot.

Why is this a decent trade..?..I understand JTM had to go…but we’re significantly weaker now, than we were this morning.

Jt miller has a history of outright clashing with fellow teammates. Its not a good look. Pettersson coming to camp out of shape, wether its true or not. Thats not JT Millers job to call him out. Especially he wears an A on his jersey. Daniel Sedin, Bieska, Jovo, Bertuzzi, Linden. all our leaders will never do this to a fellow teammates. absolutely not. As good JT Is, its not part of his job to ring out another player.

How great of a contract is it really when JT is turning 32 in a month, has 5 years left on his deal after this season with a NMC and a contract that is buyout proof?

It's something I personally was always concerned with - how the back end of that deal looks when Hughes and Pettersson are in their late 20s and should be at the peak of their ability.

LOL what the hell are you talking about?

He's a league wide mental case with an NMC.

We had a 2-3 year window to win a Cup. That window is basically now closed.

The end of Miller’s contract was irrelevant because we were going to be rebuilding by then anyway.
If they can flip the 1st and the cap space to get a 2C, I’m not so sure. And they actually weren’t in a contending window without a rebalance towards the D anyway.
As I said, they are less competitive now. I’m not so sure about a year from now.

Drance speculated this a few days ago on the radio. Can't remember if it was Wednesday's show or what, but yeah. His assumption was that given the way it's been handled and the decisions that have been made, it has to be pretty bad or worse than what's assumed.

I think that contract looked a lot more attractive after the cap news today. I don't think it's disgusting. It was obviously not tenable here, but it could work somewhere else. Although, I think his best fit was in Colorado.
