Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

Why are people acting like Miller is already declining?

He's on a 71 point pace in his "worst" season with the Canucks.

He's also #2 on the team in scoring despite missing 10 games.

Did you guys see the new salary cap numbers this morning? 8 million is the new 6 million.

When the new Canadian TV deal comes in? 8 million is going to look like 4.5 million.

He was not some "anchor contract" that needed to be unloaded. He had value and the Canucks management just completely failed at capturing it.

I wanted Miller gone too, but this return doesn't look commensurate at all.

How bad could he have been behind the scenes that they couldn't hold it together until the TDL? They had already dragged this out from back to the Horvat days. What's wrong with waiting a bit longer? Anyways.

I guarantee things behind the scenes were bad. The simple fact that we know what we know is all the evidence we need. We rarely get the type of info that's leaked, so for what has come out to have come out for sure tells us all we need to know about Miller and what type of teammate he is. He is obviously a good hockey player. But his attitude is piss poor and I dare say cancerous. His contract is also disgusting. The back half of it is going to be gross.

The simple fact they were able to get somebody to take that contract and get a 1st back is pretty remarkable. I really think this was a great trade for Van. It will look even better in 4 years when miller is a 3rd/4th liner.

Chances are they won’t be able to make this team competitive enough by the time Hughes contract runs out and they will have to make him the top paid player in the league in hopes to re-sign him.

Huh so the rutherford interview really was intended to prep the fanbase for a not so great return on this trade. That's interesting that they actually seem to have a media strategy. I mean it's not a particularly great one, but it IS a strategy. That's a real step up from the benning era! It's funny to imagine how he would have handled this whole situation.

Chytil would not be a player that Benning would target. He'd probably trade Miller for Kreider + Lindgren + 1st.
feel like he would've been pretty proactive in this situation and would've done something last summer

1. get wind of how pettersson and miller can't play together
2. immediately identify a player he likes on a team that miller would waive to
3. telegraph the move in the media for a few days about needing an upgrade on defense
4. trade miller + 2nd for trouba + 5th
5. sign trouba to a 6x6 contract extension at the end of the year

Exactly. 8 Mill for a #1 C is a freaking steal. Our team is worse now and in the future. Just makes no sense. Basically this trade only succeeds if Pete suddenly turns back into a 100pt payer overnight now and proves Miller was a locker room cancer. Which I don't believe he was and that is only a cheap excuse.

32 years old. You won't get much. Makes the NYR better for a bit. Return was never going to be a lot. I wonder what the other exodus crew get.

"We had a good thing you stupid son of a bitch! We had Hughes, we had a great core, we had everything we ever needed! And you could have shut your mouth, worked hard and won a Stanley Cup, but no...you just had to blow it up! YOU...and your pride and your ego. You just had to be the man! If you'd done your job and known your place, we'd all be FINE right now."

Jim "Mike Ehrmantraut" Rutherford

What worries me is Pete is in the cross hairs now. If this doesn't work out (it won't) well the shield that JT Miller was doesn't exist anymore. Goodluck...
He's 100% going to be a goner as well. I don't see any switch being flipped and sure as hell cannot see him carrying the forward group.

You can tell when a player has the capacity to put the team on his back and he simply lacks that ability.

This summer is absolutely critical, which is why I hope they don’t run out and do anything rash this season. Trade Boeser for another 1st and go into the summer with an absolute boat load of cap space and a ton of draft capital.

Then weaponize all of it to try and keep Hughes happy enough to sign.

The bit of hope I see is that when Miller was out, Pete stepped up.

Now he HAS to step up, otherwise the fans and media will skin him alive.

As it should be. When you have a contract like that, the expectation is to play up to it.

That is a "I am one of the best players in the world. I am accountable to myself, to my teammates, and to my organization" contract. If he can't handle that pressure, how are we supposed to be cup contenders with him?

Grandpa Rutherford prepared me for a crap return. But given the circumstances, I think this could turn out ok. You’re not going to replace a player like Miller directly so now the work begins to build up depth elsewhere.

They're going to weaponize 2 1sts and a ton of cap space. Could be really interesting what comes out of it.

Regardless of where the Rangers may finish we should be selling that pick at lottery level value. It would not be a stretch to convince someone that the pick is likely an unprotected 2026 lottery pick from a team showing a downward trend. I would be tempted to want to keep it but we all know there is little chance Allvin feels the same.

I guess that is the silver lining.

Magic beans.

Balls still feeling kicked.

Canucks vs Rangers march 22.

Sweden vs usa at the 4 nations.

Will sure as hell be interesting to watch those games. Mark the calendar.

Still so bitterly disappointed it came to this. The situation is undoubtedly a disaster, as MS said. The Canucks trying to get the best return is the end result of this turning into an absolute catastrophe in the room. The bullet was fired once these two grown men became unable to deal with each other - it just took until today to really hit.
