Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

I genuinely don’t understand why they do this if this was the only offer they could get when there will be more opportunities for teams in the off season to make a big splash.

Also I’m not sure why people think Rangers are going to fall off next year. They’ve had a ridiculously unlucky season but they’re still a good team. This is just copium.
Because Miller was probably tired of all this shit. He's been in trade rumors like every year since he's been here.

Yup. We’re f***ed.

Pettersson for Necas or something maybe keeps our window open. This does not.

We had 4 elite players a year ago and now Miller is gone, Demko is wrecked, and Pettersson is a human tampon.

I honestly don’t even know where we go from here.
Pretty much..

The response on the Rangers board is mixed. Skimming the replies, I couldn't find anyone thrilled with the deal. And then the thread got shut down after just four pages, for no reason that I could see. Odd.

We'll see what they do with one of the 1st rounders they have, better be something like the Horvat deal, I was happy how that ultimately played out. That's $3.6 million in cap to play with right away.

No pressure EP40, but you better get your act together, like, immediately.

This is a poor trade, like the Horvat deal, but that's the precedent this management team had set.

A subsequent trade will not change the evaluation of this trade. Whatever player they get with the 1st will not near the play of Miller (just like Hronek compared to Horvat).

Aside: Could you imagine them flipping the pick for Byram and NYR drops to 13th or lower? Gods no.

The irony of this happening at the Horvat trade anniversary...

- Return was going to be terrible. Other teams smelled blood as the situation in Vancouver became untenable and these idiots forced Vancouver’s hand.
Did they?

We just won 3 in a row.

Miller has 14 points in his last 17 games. He unquestionably helps this team make the playoffs more than Chytil and Mancini.

There was absolutely no pressure to trade him today rather than tomorrow, the next day, or whenever a better deal presented itself.

Upon reflection, the return for Miller is basically the same one they got for Horvat from the Islanders.

A regular season roster forward in Chytil; and prospect in Manicini; and a first round draft pick. So if the first rounder is eventually flipped for a player like Hronek, this deal might yet be a 'win' for Vancouver.

People that are talking about the protection....

Guys, if the rangers are so bad that they stay bottom 13 with Miller, wtf do you think is going to happen next year with their core all getting older and staying. Its not a bad protection by any means.

Top 13 protected while Rangers are maybe 50% or less chance to make the playoffs. An unprotected 1st would be a sexy option to dangle in a trade. Not including what we could get for Boeser at the deadline (at least a 2nd?).

Lots of cap and assets but humongous question marks at C, D, and G. Mgmt needs to nail this before Quinn bolts to New Jersey, which seems like a pretty tough if not impossible ask.

JT Miller is significantly better than Bo Horvat. He's also not a UFA like Bo Horvat was.

You think Rantanen would've been traded for Necas+ if he wasn't a UFA?

Miller's value should be way higher than Horvat's.

Because that team is old. Their whole fanbase months ago was saying that making any trade without moving out Zibanejad would be insane.

There's two sets of thinking. There's the group who still thinks that & then the group who see it as acquiring a really good player for pennies as an opportunity you don't pass up. And I don't think either set is particularly right or wrong, but I'd probably be in the "why did we do this without moving zibanejad" boat myself.

might have this wrong but

Pettersson with Miller in the lineup: 34 GP, 9 goals, 8 assists
Pettersson without Miller in the lineup: 10 GP, 2 goals, 13 assists

Can't wait to get our 100 point centre back on track, no more excuses now!
