Has shown immense promise at times - World Cup MVP and Stanley Cup playoffs last year. Still aspects to work on, such as high point shots and stickwork, but showing high level athleticism. Quick side to side and increasingly better covering bottom of the net.

Deal is excellent given his potential to actually play back up this year (although you might think team is still looking for vet back up). Patera, presently signed, might also be an option.

Another indication no one is much into offer sheets. Becoming really a non-issue.
I'd add just better overall puck tracking as well to be improved. Those were the issues in the playoffs it seemed just looking over the wrong shoulder for pucks through traffic

A lot of it has to do with having the best goalie coach in the league for most of that time. When Ian Clark wasn't the Canucks goalie coach., he took a young goalie that Flyer's fans couldn't run out of town fast enough and turned him into a Vezina winner. That goalie is one of the main reasons Florida is now the Stanley Cup champions.

No, Benning would have traded him along with a 2nd round pick for Martin Jones

Actually, Benning's MO was to overpay his RFA's. He gave Boeser 6.5M when his value was more like 5.0M, Garland 4.9M when his value was 3.5M, Virtanen 2.5M, Hutton 2.8M, Stecher 2.3M when they should have been given 1.0M - 1.5M each.

Great deal for the Canucks. He kept them in the Oilers series.

Moot point:

Currently to be tendered an offer sheet, a player must: Have at least one NHL contract expire. Have played at least 80 NHL games if a forward or defenseman, or 28 NHL games if a goalie (applies only for players who have 3 years of NHL service).

He has only played 9 regular season games over two years. (+10 Playoff games.)

Not sure he really had the interest or resume to leverage more at this early stage of his career.
In fact, I'd argue that it was his impressive performance in the playoffs that earned him a one-way deal. Otherwise, he'd likely be on a two-way contract.

That said, I'm glad he's signed and has a chance to earn more in a couple years if his tutelage under Clark continues

Oh, sick. I had him pegged at probably 2 years x $1M with basically the Hoglander/Podkolzin sort of "prove it" deal.

This is a bargain. Obviously not saving an enormous amount...but that extra $150k this year and next can all add up and help patch some other holes for them at the deadline.

I guess haggling over that extra little bit is probably why this deal took a little bit longer than expected to get done. But, worth the wait.

He had an 877sv% and couldn't stop a shot on the pk but I see the angle you're working lol.

I think he's gonna be a good one but anyone claiming he kept us in the series is living in a fantasy or coping with the fact that Demko likely wins that series rather easily.

This is a perfect example where stats do not tell the whole story.

He stole multiple games for us in the playoffs as a third string goalie

Even briefly where the Canucks didn't have Ian Clark in town...they had a pretty decent stopgap with Roland Melanson. Who also did some pretty good work with some of those guys among others, and also had some pretty good success in Montreal for a while, with a guy like Halak.

They've definitely been pretty fortunate with goaltending coaches and development for quite a while now. Which has been quite the turnaround from a long run where they were a bit of a goalie wasteland, trying a lot of desperation options that didn't work out and really held some of those teams back.

Part of it isn't really luck though. It's been a willingness to be really flexible with guys and their preferred working situations, as well as giving them a pretty big say in what goes on, which projects they work with, etc., in order to get the best. And that's translated to some loyalty.

I watched every game and I'm a huge Silovs fan. He was good against Nashville, what game did he steal against the oilers?

I mean it was a great story but it was a great story because of the situation but if that had been Demko in net the pitchforks would be out.

I think our team D was huge and it was obvious the team played a much safer style which helped Silovs 5on5.
But on the PK despite how good of job the pkers did Silovs was exposed and it was frustrating to watch them allow 1 shot on the pk usually almost at the end only to give up a call.

Silovs had massive issues with tracking the puck and was swimming a lot out there.
I think a full season with Clarky will be huge.

Yeah, it’s kind of amazing his stats were actually that bad, he looked like the key to them doing as well as they did in that series. Imagine if it had a fully healthy Demko. But the coach deserves a ton of credit for the move taking Skinner out – that could’ve been the end of his career, but it worked out beautifully

Not everything is an angle. Silovs played extremely well for the Canucks in that series.

Hypotheticals are fun - but they work in both directions. For example, if Drai, McDavid, and Kane were healthy, the Oilers likely win in 4.
