I feel like Hronek is getting an extra $1 mil per year because he's a righty. On age and his first half of last year it's a great contract. On his 2nd half and playoffs it's a marginal overpay. Don't mind the term as he will likely be a top 4 the whole next 8 years.

devon toews >> filip hronek
the other one is worth the contract, the other one is currently half season wonder
Thats a load of poppycock. He did damage on the PP in DET. and was Yzermans best pick in a slew of drafts

You do know Hronek played extremely well for Detroit as well before coming to Vancouver right?

A 45/50 point RHD D-man who can skate, shoot, and has chemistry with Quinn Hughes for 7.25m is fair.

Is he overpaid? Sure, About 250k at most, but at the same time, the Cap is going to skyrocket in the next 4 years, this is gonna be the rate for a #3/4 guy soon, not a #1/2.
For a RHD who's done what he did already and hasn't even peaked yet , it's not an overpay by even a dollar. D-men usually peak at 29-30, hes 26.

If he played the way he did in the first half and playoffs , we'd be paying 8.25.

I think fair value for what the Canucks got from him this past season was between 6.5-7M. Signing him to slightly more today is fine imo, and will only look better as the cap rises. Plus he's 26 & we get his entire prime/peak years.

This is a better result than losing him & having to go back to the drawing board to find a really good RHD.

Signing him for .25 more than the value we got from him this year , for 8 years is about as efficient as it gets in this league.

Yzerman didn't draft Hronek.
