Rumor du jour was that the Canucks were hot on Tanev but balked at the asking price--another first rounder. Not surprised.

The sad reality is that this 34-year old version isn't the same one who left Vancouver for Calgary when he was 31. I think the Canucks can do better out there on the trade market.....and keep their 2025 first rounder.

The Canucks paid a bit extra in this trade because they already have an understanding with Calgary that they will get Tanev as well. The Canucks just need to make a move or two in order to make room for Tanev. It's like they have a deposit on Tanev and will collect him in the next few weeks.

Heard it first here peeps. :)
I would be very surprised if we got Tanev..He's going to be a prime candidate at the TDL, and there's going to be a sellers market for him..One would think that JR/PA would walk away when the bidding gets a bit rich.

I wouldnt cough up another 1st for him, or give up a prime asset either (Hog,Podz,Willander,Lekker)..There's just too much mileage on Tanev to consider that.

I like the deal, now that I have some time to digest it. And l like the idea of making it early, to maximize the time Lindholm has to practice and mesh with the team.

It also prevents the players from waiting and wondering as they get closer to the deadline, and gives them a boost coming out from the All-Star break and hopefully gets them focused on a strong 2nd half of the season into the playoffs.

Who are we getting rid of to bring him in? What assets are we willing to part with. JR says that there will be minor trades now

Honestly not too sure. I was thinking Podkolzin. Not sure if it's enough or too much, but I honestly think acquiring Tanev would put us over the top. After seeing Allvin go all in with the Lindholm trade, I would do the sacrifice with Pods although I know it would be a unpopular opinion on here.

I just want a cup.

I don't think anyone's worried about what they have to say because I don't think they are actually trying to say anything about a hockey team. it's just bizarre.
I lurk around more than I post. Made the mistake of visiting there one day which got me banned from the thread. I merely pointed out that its laughable that fans that cheer for a team that has shamrocks and rabbits feet stuffed up its arse for winning 4 draft lottos at the league slot machine - including a generational player for the ages- shouldnt be whining endlessly about another team's supposed luck. I must admit it was satisfying getting the mouth breathers to froth at the mouth.

The only other thing that comes close to the delusions in that thread is the Calgary Puck "Vancouver is no good" thread. That has gone one for years, much tamer these days, but still a weird obsession.

The thing is if we trade all of our cost controlled prospects, this will be our only shot… I’m all for going all in with prospects and picks, but unsure we should be trading prospects who can contribute over the next 3 years on cheap contracts.

Much as I want the meme of "Dad's coming home!" to happen, Tanev just isn't worth a 1st. If he was a few years younger, then you could certainly argue that but not at 34. And especially not when he's a luxury add. We don't need him so much as we want him for insurance with Soucy's injury history this season.

Cole has played exceptionally well in a depth role. No need to have him benched while giving up a first for Tanev. My guess is we'll circle back when nobody else makes that offer and Calgary comes down to a 2nd.

I think a lot of teams like the idea of Tanev but I'd be surprised if a team pays a first for him with how wide open things are.

The last 72H with the Tanev trying to force his way to VAN stuff was interesting to me.

Seems like whoever trades for him will have to really overpay him to get him to sign an extension if he’s already angling back to VAN for July 1. And I think that would put a lot of teams off unless my team had a ton of injuries or I felt Tanev as a pure rental was the final piece

I feel like he’s either going to be a Leaf or Canuck on July 1st

Lebrun on TSN said the Leafs were interested and they were told that the price was a 2nd....but the leafs don't have any 2nd rounders for three years so for them it would have to be a 1st rounder.

Interesting that the price for us was relatively high...ah I see, we lost ours in the Stillman trade...sigh.

Hunter Brzustewicz: “I’ve said for the last couple of weeks that it would be really cool to be part of a trade”

Odd comment.

Interesting way to say he wanted to be elsewhere, or maybe he just tried to give a "uhh pucks in deep" answer because he didn't know what else to say

CHL guys almost always sign so I doubt he was going to refuse to sign here, but I did find it interesting that this front office seems to like to sign their earlier round prospects pretty quickly and the guy shredding the OHL as a D+1 dmen wasn't signed yet.

Interesting.......in that interview, Brzustewicz said 'I always thought it would be cool to be part of an NHl trade."

Sounds to me that he had some sort of inkling that he'd be traded, particularly when the Canucks didn't offer him an ELC on draft day or shortly thereafter.

I think for some time the Canucks have regarded him as a 'moveable' asset, along with their 2024 first round draft pick.

He's 19 and this is maybe the most high stress situation for an NHL prospect. These guys are all groomed from a young age for interviews but I'm not putting any thought into awkward phrasing on what was probably a canned response

Much the same as everyone losing their shit over McCann's "it is what it is" remark, though that one was worse because everyone took it out of context as in him saying it about being drafted by the team but left out was the interviewer asking him how he feels about falling from an early teens ranking.

But why not sign him when you're signing guys like Mynio? I don't believe they pay these guys a dime if they're in the CHL so I'm wondering if Bruz's camp said "we'll sign later".

Even if you want to trade Bruz, signing him only helps that cause.

It's probably nothing, but just interesting to note.

My thoughts on the trade: as a long time Canucks fan I'm used to missing the playoffs or an early exit with the rare exceptions of '94 and 2011. So looking forward to prospects and the draft has been a crutch to sustain my fandom. However, this year it seems we have a team that is far outperforming everyone's expectations and management has correctly decided to "go for it". So I am pretty happy with the deal, especially since I don't think the Canucks gave up a premium asset. Kuzmenko just wasn't working out in Vancouver (he might do well elsewhere and I wish him luck). The 1st round pick should be in the late 20s. Hunter B has racked up points but I've never been completely sold on his game. Jurmo and the 4th are whatever. As for Lindholm, we'll have to see how he fits in with the team. Lots of mixed opinions on him but, given that we have a management team and coaching staff that are on the same page, I doubt we'll see him benched or in the press box.

Even if the deal doesn't work out, I won't fault management for making a bold move when the team looks like it can make some noise.

Being on this board is nice, it makes me feel less petty and sensitive.
