Proposal: Value of Quinn Hughes

Because Luke could maximize his income by signing for only 1 year and then a team like Detroit could say, "Do you Feel Lucky, Make my day" and ask NJ to match a 1 year 11.7M offer sheet for Luke.

Luke is going to get a massive payday if he only re-ups for only a year in NJ.

so there is that.
It's always been my impression the Hughes boys were raised right, that money doesn't buy happiness, but you keep trying, it's quite amusing.

Detroit, San Jose, Seattle or Chicago among other teams I'm sure could put together far superior offers than the slop Devils fans are offering up.

In what world does San Jose, Seattle or Chicago trade for Quinn Hughes?

All 3 of those teams finished in the bottom 5 this season. You really think they're going to spend the assets required for two seasons of Quinn Hughes and that he'll be happy going to a bottom feeder? A trade to one of those teams would all but guarantee he's going the UFA route in 2 years.

Detroit wants to give away four 1st round picks for one year of Luke Hughes? Assuming Luke would ever accept any offer sheet to begin with.

It is irrelevant whether he will be happy to go one of those teams. If they choose to deal him this summer they will take the best offer available. Devils fans need to get that through their thick skulls. The acquiring team will then have 12 months to try and get him inked to a long term contract.

There could be 15 teams trying to get him if he's put on the block this summer. Top 5 players in the league that are paid half their worth never go on the market.

Technically the acquiring team has 24 months to convince Quinn to stay and Detroit could be the place that convinces him to stay since Michigan is his home.

Detroit also has the asset base to build a team around Quinn without destroying their team in acquiring him:

Some of Lucas Raymond, Marco Kasper, Simon Edvinsson, Nate Danielson for example.

Sure, Detroit would make sense. A bit of humble pie for Detroit trading away allot of assets for someone They could have drafted. Detroit could be really good soon. Not sure why He would not sign there just because He wants to play with His Brothers. Maybe His friend Brock will sign in Detroit?

Lol 12 months to try.

Like who is going to give up a ton to get him for 1 season with no hope of resigning him? Some teams might - but the list isn't that big. And the offer is probably similar to what? 2 1sts? for one season? Idk

Also - teams, agents, players talk - like if Quinn doesn't want to go somewhere, but just to NJ - like the other team who is thinking of 'convincing him to stay' is going to be like "Can't wait to give up a ton for a guy who doesn't want to be here." It's weird.

And the boys don't live in Detroit in the off-season - they live in a nice lake house. Spend your 20s winters with your bros in NYC or.....Suburban Detroit?

It's absolutely relevant. Why would a team like San Jose, that's in the midst of a rebuild, trade away a tons of assets for a player like Quinn Hughes knowing that he has zero interest in going to a team that far away from contending and could bolt via free agency in two years? Why would the Sharks trade away a ton of futures to acquire Hughes knowing it would still be a stretch for them to even sniff the playoffs in the next two years?

Sure, you can say that every team would have interest in Hughes - but for some, it just doesn't fit their timeframe. Can you get that concept through your thick skull? I never said that there wouldn't be a number of teams interested or that Vancouver wouldn't just take the best offer, so don't come at me with that crap.

Seattle is getting restless and want to start competing, what better way than adding a player like Quinn? All depends on the acquisition cost.

Yeah, I wouldn't rule Seattle out as having interest and they certainly have the cap space to make a massive contract offer. I'm not sure I see them as a team that Quinn would have near the top of his list though as far as signing long-term.

Any acquisition cost for Hughes is going to be high - and I would think even higher for the Canucks to trade him away in the division to such a close geographical rival.

Don’t count out Florida.

If the Canucks do trade Hughes it should signal a rebuild so trading Hughes wherever shouldn’t be an issue. In any case, certain interested teams could just be used as leverage to garner a better return as well. When a player like Hughes comes available almost every team will show some interest at least, just really depends on what Vancouver would be looking for. Maybe they don’t rebuild and move him to Florida for something like Lundell and Forsling and Quinn signs an extension in Miami and his brothers join him later? Lots of possibilities.

I get it, but teams are usually understandably hesitant to deal star players to a rival team unless the offer really blows away the rest. Seattle also seems to be a ways away from contending so I just don't see them as being a good fit for Quinn - surely lots of teams will have interest though.

Don't pretend you know how any management group is thinking and what they want to do to improve their team for the coming season(s) or what they would be willing to part wih. You're out of your element.

It's a message board, where many of us speculate. Some of us even use logic! That's not "pretending to know what any management group is thinking".

And WTF is "You're out of your element" even supposed to mean?!?

All I know if that you've yet to even remotely attempted to actually provide a counter-argument to anything I wrote. Just a useless post saying essentially that I shouldn't even speculate on the subject, but somehow it's OK when you do.

You're kind of adorable when you get angry.

I'm merely responding to the swamp creatures that think its a foregone conclusion that Quinn ends up in Jersey. Allvin will take the best deal available and judging from the table scraps offered by the Devils fans, if Fitz sees things through a similar lens, he won't be going to Jersey.

Smoke some Indica my guy.
