I'll give you speed and physicality but how are they downgrading in offense? They've scored at the exact same 0.59ppg since 13/14 when Filppula joined the Lightning. Kane might score more goals but they both have the same number of 20+ goals seasons. What you get in Filppula is someone who'll actually be on the ice playing 75 games a year, a great locker room player and a very good two way center.

Even if I concede that the offense is a wash that doesn't address the speed, physicality and fact we have to protect flip...what is Tampa adding to essentially be helped out by getting flips NMC off the books?

I don't see it as you doing us a favor type of deal. I don’t see 8 skaters worth protecting so Filppula isn't forcing you from exposing a key player. You get a player who's a great locker room guy, good on and off the ice, a veteran who's never missed the playoffs in his career for someone with health and character issues. You take less risk because we take away a key player from our playoff team for a huge question mark.

Didn't the Habs used to covet Kane? He'd be a good pick up and Montreal likes to experiment with Semin and Radulov, why not try Kane? 2nd + when Buffalo is out of it?

Kane for Yakupov seems fair but too little too late.

Kane is better than Yakupov, I wouldn't really say that comparison is close.

If the Bruins are trying to get Kane they would have to over pay us for him. start with a 1st+ due to us being in the same division. But i see Kane playing out his deal with us. We will see how good he is the rest of the year once he gets back.

I can't see that happening. No team is going to overpay for that guy. Overpaying for him at this point might be a second round pick.

Would love him in Colorado despite his off ice issues. Top 6 scorer who can play on the boards is Colorado's biggest need. Colorado doesn't have the cap space though.

You should take the Sedins! They're top six scorers who can play on the boards!! :)

I'm guessing the value of Evander Kane is "LOL we'll just keep him then".

Evander Kane for Sven Baertschi & Luca Sbisa...Would be interesting to see Baertschi w/ Eichel or Reinhart; Sbisa isn't quite a top-4 D, but can play spot minutes as a #4, and the Sabres seem to need a left-handed shot

Sbisa would probably be a #7, I wouldn't mind that but having 7.5M in him and Gorges for the next 2 years is scary

Kane has 35 points for the Sabres since the trade almost two years ago. Any way you slice it, that's pathetic. There aren't too many players in the league who haven't outperformed that, so I'm sure you can see where someone is coming from when they say Stafford has outperformed him.

I'm sure that lack of point production has nothing to do with Kane being injured for most of that time...

I wonder if he would be a fit in Dallas? What are Buffalo's needs? Draft picks, prospects, or current NHL players?

On the ice he is at his most useful a big, physical third line guy that can score some as the offensive guy on a line. And off the ice and in the dressing room he is a potential nightmare.

Ideally he goes to a very veteran team that is a top contender that needs depth and has a ton of vets to keep him in line.

But this is the cap era. He might look nice on the 15-20 years ago Red Wings. But he makes $5.25... has no business on a cap contending team salary wise. On a young emerging team (including Buffalo) he has a big off ice issue of being the worst example for you g prospects. As a top 6 forward he doesn't really mesh with anyone properly because his game is so individual based.

He does have some real talent and skill and size. But his contract in a Cap league is way to high. His persona and ability to work with skilled teammates is limited.

His future is gonna be a skill B level UFA that gets 1 year deals at $2 million or less and moves around to new teams that need depth scoring. I guess he fails utterly some years and has at least a few good years from time to time.

At $5.25 he had very little trade value now.

Pretty spot on assessment there, couldn't agree more. I've always liked Kane, just doesn't mesh well with other top 6 forwards.

5mil, 20 goals on a good year. Off ice problems.

Quite close to negative value.
