He's on the wrong side of 30 with a big contract and just got in some hot water. I don't think he has much value to be honest.

I would trade for him while that perceived value was low, as he still preforms quite well on the ice, bonis if my team was in an area where his opinion did not matter/ will be forgotten by next season

You literally just "proposed"

Couture + Jones (100% retention, which is impossible) for Fleury.

Dude... Why are you starting a thread?

:help:
I think I did not word that very clearly, the retention would be on Fleury's side, and/also, I wonder what his value to other teams would be.
please tell me how i could word the op to be easier to interpret

Less cap hit? Not necessarily, just shorter cap hit. Ive said 8th + Okposo + a B+ prospect for LC + Sorensen would be an interesting trade before.

That really blocks Cozens for a long time.

Huge cap dump + prospect + 8th OA does or at least should not get you even remotely close to a conversation about Couture IMO.

SJ should take that and run if it was offered.

What the hell does buffalo even want him for? He’s towards the end of his prime and the sabres aren’t near competing. Would be a waste of assets

Buffalo's actually gotta start competing at some point, they can't just lose forever and if they can add skilled players without giving up too many futures/prospects/young players, these are the kinds of deals they need to make.

But Couture wouldn’t be cheap. It would cost 8th OA plus at least one more good asset.

If buff that close to competing that its worth trading for him? Idk

If they want to add “win now” pieces for cheap they need to target other players

Why is Couture in big trouble? All he said was he would vote for Trump just because you don't like who another person would vote for doesn't mean you sucker punch the guy.

It would also likely involve moving out a bad contract like Okposo. So that seems like a perfectly fine payment to me. San Jose would have the cap space to pay for KO and it doesn't effect any of their big RFA's

I agree and I don't think it's a great deal unless SJS is taking back a contract and I don't particularly think Couture is the player I'd target at first, but BUF can't just draft high every year, they need to start making moves. I'd look to replicate a trade like what the Canucks did for J.T. Miller, or try other potential buy-low projects.

In addition, I'd start targeting veterans on the tail end of their career who have played a lot of post-season games to try for a culture change. In Vancouver, the Sedins, Kesler et al credited Gillis' signing of Sundin as what really brought their play to the next level. Those guys know what it takes to win over a long NHL career and giving Dahlin, Eichel someone to look up to like that would be huge for them.

Exactly. Some people are so f***ing soft and sensitive that they assumed the OP wanted him gone because of his tweets
Timing seems a little odd, no? This thread could've been made all offseason long, but the day he's in the news, now it seems like the time to make it?

Center at the tail end of his prime, signed at 8M until 39. You are trading for the cap space when you need it. KO's contract ends exactly when Meier needs to get paid. You get a top 10 pick in a stacked draft to help with a fast retool. But sure by all means pretend your team doesnt have long term cap problems.
Yup we are going to keep our 1C unless you are offering a package worth a 1C f*** off.

WTF? I offered you a top 10 pick in the deepest draft in the last 20 years. You are taking the short term cap dump back because thats how selling and retooling works. at 8th overall you can get Perfetti or Lundell who are likely to be top 6 talents. You can may even also get Rossi who will be a 1C. How exactly do you think you are resigning Meier and his 10M QO? Or renewing Hertl's contract?

We arent trading him. Overreaction to the tweet doesnt do anything to change the fact that we are trying to compete next year and this would do the opposite

The thing is Couture's contract is awful. He's already 31 and he's got 7 years left at $8M. Then factor in that he can only be traded to 3 teams of his choosing + the fact that the vast majority of the league is up against the cap...

People are upset because his views might not align with theirs ? Now they want him gone?

Its almost like they are proving his point.

No, you and people like you just miss the point of why people responded as they did. There are very few people that actually want him gone for this. People simply want answers to certain questions about why he'd publicize such a thing and how he can justify supporting what he does and also support Kane's diversity initiative without at least one of them ringing hollow due to where each side stands on certain issues. These are legitimate questions that Couture never answered but even if he answered poorly, most people aren't wanting him gone. People are mostly just acknowledging that something like this can wreck a locker room.

Do you know what draft was also labeled the deepest in years? EVERY GOD DAMN YEAR. We aren’t selling or retooling as you say. We will happily keep all of our players if you’re only offering garbage that 1. is worth less than Couture and 2. doesn’t come close to filling our needs.

Dude it’s a trade thread on HF.. Why are you getting all worked up?
Man f*** off with bullshit like this. I’m not getting worked up. Do you honestly think I care? It’s a trade thread that has come in with an offer that is frankly insulting when I say no the guy tries to defend it with bullshit arguments that get brought up every trade thread that is hey your guy or team sucks so you have to move him. Your response is unnecessary and unneeded.

His on ice value isn't affected by him lying about being punched for saying his dad's a cop (He's a firefighter btw lol) / being a trump supporter. his value is being affected by him being 31 locked up for 7 more years at 8 million and being a career 60 point player with injury history + a M-NTC
