Coronato Just got 7 years @ 6.5m/year.
He had 24g & 23a.

I think Holloway could get 8x8 and Broberg I’m hoping for 8 years @ 5

I feel like both would be well advised to wait rather than extending this offseason. Both dealt with injuries, and while both were a pleasant surprise, I feel like both would be leaving money on the table if they don’t use the opportunity to get another solid year under their belt. If the appetite is there to extend long term now, I think Broberg’s deal probably starts with a 6 and Holloway’s probably starts with a 7.

And I think Broberg will play this in a little tougher way than will Holloway.

I think Broberg is starting to understand his value on this roster. He will command more than 8x5m.

Broberg will get way more than 5M. The cap is going to skyrocket over the next 9 years. I think RFAs are going to be more wary of signing long-term extensions right now if the number isn't super enticing. This might be bold but I'd genuinely be okay with locking up both for 8x8. 8M right now is 9.1% of the cap. In 2027-2028, which would only be Broberg's 2nd year of his extension, 8M could be as low as 7% as projected by the NHL. 7% today is 6.2M. Again, that would only be year two of his deal and 8 million would be the same as 6.2M today. By year 8 it could be drastically low. The new environment heavily encourages locking up young players to long-term deals before the cap explodes. This is why I love the Coronato deal. Obviously he only has one year in the NHL, but he was consistently great in the Flames games I saw. He's only 22 and I expect him to consistently improve.

If Holloway signs long term at a number starting with 8, it’s a win for the Blues. Coronato is a great deal for Calgary. I’ll be curious to see what Matthew Knies gets. Both him and Holloway were 2 of only I believe 4 or 5 players to hit 25+ goals and 150+ hits.

I want them both in the Blue Note for at least the next 8 years. Just entering their prime and both are staples in the top half of the lineup. Would love matching 8x7 or 8x8. Whatever it is, pay the men. They took(and will continue taking) a lot of shit for signing those offer sheets allowing us to acquire them for way less than market value. What we saved in draft capital we might have to pay a bit in cap space but they’re 23 years old and poised to be big time contributors for the next decade. Pay ‘em.
