Celebrity Death: Val Kilmer 65 years old

Tombstone and Heat are among my favorite all-time movies. Top Secret was a funny movie of his from 1984. Rest in Peace
yup..
I liked 'Top Secret'.. I still remember their poster, with the cow wearing boots.

Kilmer had a wide variety of roles. I mostly remember him as Jim Morrison, but he was also really good as a part-Indian FBI agent in Thunderheart. Saw that one in a basically empty theater. I don't think it's remembered, or appreciated much.

Besides Top Gun, I remember him most fondly from Willow. I re-watched that a few years ago and was reminded of what a good lovable jerk he was in that, a feat that I imagine not many actors could pull off.

I remember being excited for it coming to HBO and watching it several times over the course of a few months. I liked it quite a bit, but it feels like it was forgotten pretty quickly and most people these days have probably never heard of it. I need to watch it again.

RIP

Gonna watch Real Genius this week now

Even though I have seen it a million times it still is great movie that deserved better recognition

Another role of his that really flew under radar was his performance in "Wonderland" a movie I enjoyed but critics did not (Though many praised his performance)

Great actor. I liked him in almost everything I saw him in. The throat cancer issue really did in his career, and now I'm wondering if something related to that ultimately did him in as well. Sad news indeed.

PS: Confirmed caused of death: Pneumonia, not related to the throat cancer he had in the past.

Actually, it's truly amazing that pneumonia still kills a lot of people.

Even though it may not have been the throat cancer that was the beginning of the end. They caught it when it was stage 1 but he refused chemo and radiation, instead choosing prayer. After his kids and ex-wife begged him to get treatment it was stage 3 and he lost his voicebox.

Five favourite VK performances (chronological order):

Thunderheart
Tombstone
The Salton Sea
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

Also worth noting his strangest role: in 2006, Kilmer had a bit part in a Polish Western called Dead Man's Bounty (aka Summer Love for some demented reason) in which he played a dead man from start to finish. No flashbacks or anything like that. His character is a corpse when the plot begins and he stays a corpse till the end. Talk about minimalist acting.

He was one of the all-time fun unpredictable Hollywood actors who, though inconsistent sometimes, had as wide a range as any of his contemporaries.

RIP to a legend. This one hurts. Just some amazing performances.

Spinning the cup in Tombstone. The boots gag in Top Secret! Iceman. Heat (the look he gives his wife before the heist). Just an awesome actor.
