I think we need a change at GM or whatever title Masai is. I think he has done as much as he could ( winning a championship) and should move on. I doubt he has any problem finding a job if he needs or wants one. We need a fresh mind or two. :)

Siakam and Barnes both look like allstars, problem is Siakam will be going to the highest bidder in the off-season. I'm fairly certain he's gone and if not, he's going to be on a massive deal heading into 30s.

Poetl looks like a mistake under Darko and this new offense.

Rumor is several teams are going to be offering OG the max contract and Masai will most likely match.

There is a good chance Barnes will be on an Island by himself next year with an overpaid center and 40m roleplayer (albeit a good roleplayer).

Masai needs to nail this trade deadline or Barnes will be spending the next 3-4 years not playing meaningful games.

We lost FVV for nothing, and Siakam/OG are both worth less today than they were a year ago when they still had ~1.5 years left on their contracts.

So Masai already missed the chance to nail it - it's just damage control now. He just straight up misread the trajectory of this team, even though 90% of Joe Shmoe fans who arent paid millions of dollars to be experts could see that.

Reminds me of the JFJ/Burke/Nonis era for the Leafs, where fans were clamouring for a rebuild, and they wasted a decade tinkering.

I agree with this, Masai made the cardinal mistake, he overrated his own talent. His career protectory looks so much like Joe Dumars time as GM of the Pistons its not even funny. Win a title and get gradually worse for 5 years.

He can still recoup some assets for the Barnes led team, even if they aren't the level of assets he could've gotten 1 year ago for. If he screws this one up, its Barnes and Poeltl and maybe OG and nothing else next year.

And you're right this is like the JFJ era. The team struggles and wins against bad teams and loses to good teams and Masai thinks he's close. He already traded a 1st round pick...so he's exactly like JFJ, LOL.

Actually, the most confounding aspect of this team is that they have beat some really good teams this season (Dallas, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Phoenix) and lost to some real dustballs (Charlotte, Portland, Atlanta).

What's going on in Charlotte? They have been irrelevant their entire existence. 3 playoff appearances in 20 seasons. This franchise just exists, that's it.

Do you guys actually think Masai is in any kind of hot seat? I don't. I think his job is at risk as Brendan Shanahan's.

And who would they even bring in his place? Toronto feels like NBA siberia once again.

Offering a bright young exec a promotion will entice a number of people to Siberia.

Toronto needs to make some moves.

We all know it, but that doesn't mean that the trades are available to be had yet.

Last night was easily Schroeder's worst game of the year. A couple of turnovers that were attributed to other players were caused by Schroeder backing up when he could see pressure (and a potential steal). His defense was practically non-existent last night.

Last nights game was more of the same.

Siakam and Barnes can work together, but when they are cooking, Poeltl and Schroeder struggle. This is the trend. The ball needs to be in the hands of Siakam and Barnes the vast majority of the time with this new Darko system. This freezes out Schroeder. The starting PG should just be there for shooting purposes at this point.

Given that, Poeltl is sometimes completely useless out there and didn't even play in the 4th quarter last night. You traded multiple picks and signed him for 18m/yr Masai. Nice going, your coach won't even play him down the stretch of games. And your team is actively playing worse with Poeltl in the lineup. Another strike against Masai.

Nurse was a way better coach than Darko...it is what it is.

This team needs to blow it up in the worst way. You now know you have an all-star in Barnes, thank god, because it wasn't looking so good last year. Build around him and draft high, because you're not going to lure any top free agents.

Siakam has played very respectably, get the assets you can for him NOW. Nothing will be significant, but get something.

OG is about to get overpaid, Multiple teams getting ready to sign him to a 200m deal. Trade him too. He's going to sign for double what he's worth, don't do it Masai.

Schroder's a stopgap, if you can get anything for him get it, but I doubt it.

Precious and Poeltl are expendable. You blew it on Poeltl.

Trent is the only one I'd keep, because he has Plantar Fascistis and I believe that has a lot to do with his struggles this year. He's probably going to sign for less now and has potential to outplay his upcoming contract. Plus I like his shooting and age. If he wants a raise tell him to gtfo too though.

I don't get why Masai believes in these guys so much. Its clear they don't give a shit. No player only meetings. Coach hasn't called out any of the players. You're in charge of a bad team that doesn't care of the future, except maybe Barnes.

Also Chicago won last night. So technically, if the season ended today. You wouldn't be in the play-in and you wouldn't have your pick. Congratulations.

All good points. And it's not just that the players look listless, it seems like the whole framchise has lost its mojo. Whether it's Masai, or his replacement, this team needs a major reset in the worst way. He blew it with Lowry, he blew it with Fred, he blew it with Poetl, and the future of the franchise is pretty bleak because of those missteps.

This season is quickly shaping up to be a write off.

It's confirming what many of us thought going into the season, which is that it's time to recoup as many assets as possible for the veterans on this team and start a proper rebuild.

The raps not off loading last deadline was a huge blunder. Moving out picks to add Poetl was an even bigger blunder. They best not make the same mistake this deadline or it's going to be a long and painful rebuild.
