Raptors Discussion: v97 2024-2025 Season winding down. Stop Winning!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

IF they get to within a game or two of the play in, may as well just go for it. Activate Ingram. With a win tonight, they are within 3.5 games of the Bulls. I mean, it's doable.

Worst move ever. They really need to finish bottom 5 or else have a very high risk of being a treadmill team.

Pissed away a top 3 pick… now pissed away a top 5. Gonna end up picking 10th

Management is an absolute disgrace and has failed for years now.

Buying at deadlines? wtf

Fire everyone
They have dressed and played everybody except the water boy, and they've had top players out on a regular basis for various, dubious reasons. The reality is that our rookies are playing well, while our opposition doesn't have that kind of talented young depth. Not sure what else the team can do - refuse to get off the team bus?

Are things looking bleak next year for the Raps? I notice we can't tank properly if that matters and seems we don't even have a second round pick in the draft? Making the first round all that more important?

They are blowing the tank. Such a dumb org sometimes. So many really obvious misteps.

If it means anything I ran tank nation on the top 7 picks 20 times each.
It's a total crap shot
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8
1st 2 1. 1. 6. 11
2nd 4. 4. 2. 5. 3. 5
3rd. 2. 5. 3. 1. 2. 5. 2
4th 4. 4. 3. 0. 4. 4
5th. 4. 2. 3. 2. 2. 0. 8
6th. 1. 1. 3. 3. 0. 2. 3. 4
7th. 1. 2. 4. 0. 0. 0. 5. 8

Hopefully the basketball gods are watching

We have Portland's pick in the second round, which will be slightly lower than ours.

They’re trying….kinda ethically….but the other tanks are super tankers.
They’ve tried to kinda straddle that with development and experimenting for fit with their pieces at the same time, with has led to a handful of wins.
It was always coming down to the lotto anyway, which always could go very well or very badly.

So who is to blame for these wins?

Other teams taking them for granted, or just hot flashes for players fighting for jobs next year?

Mostly it’s other teams outtanking the raps tank, without much regard for professional integrity or effort….I mean, tanking that hard is kinda gross.
Sometimes, it’s encouraging stuff like young guys playing good big minutes.
Sometimes, their culture of wanting to play hard.
Sometimes bottom roster players playing lights out outta nowhere.
All adding up to 5-7 wins that effect lotto odds in a bad way….some that are worth it when players develop.

The Atlanta hawks even made the play-in tournament as a 10th seed last year against the Chicago Bulls ( they lost that game and were eliminated from the playoffs) but they still won the draft lottery anyway. I hope the same situation happens to the Raptors.

[CHICAGO — The Atlanta Hawks won the NBA draft lottery on Sunday, landing the No. 1 pick and a potential cornerstone player in a year where there’s no clear-cut choice.
The Hawks hit the jackpot despite just 3 per cent odds after finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference at 36-46. They dropped their final six regular-season games and lost to the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the play-in tournament.

“It was a shock,” said general manager Landry Fields, who grinned ear to ear when deputy commissioner Mark Tatum announced the Hawks as the winners. “When I first saw that it wasn't us between 10 and 12, that launched us into the top four. I was like, all right, we've got a real shot at this thing. A bit of surprise, but a lot of excitement.”]

We’ll likely finish between the 5th or 7th spot with a good chance at a top 4 draft selection and maybe even a good chance at winning the draft lottery.

We aren’t as bad as our current record. We were a top 5 worst team in the league in the first half of the season, but we also had a lot of recurring injuries to starters. If we were healthy all season, we would be probably be in a play-in spot at best.

Toronto is too good to tank because we don’t have a truly horrible roster(starters and bench together) but we’re too bad to really contend for the title. We’re lucky to fight for a top 5 draft pick this year, in my opinion. In fact, we were supposed to compete hard for a 7th or 8th seed, but many recurring injuries to starters and bench players, and sloppy execution due to youthful immaturity/inexperience/mistakes( remember the Raptors are one of the youngest squads in the league with the fewest average number of seasons of NBA experience:

And also other Teams in the « tank wars » like the wizards, hornets, pelicans and jazz are much more worse roster wise and have more dysfunctional organizations than the Raptors. Sixers are an exception to the rule because on paper, they are a veteran talented squad and were actually expected to challenge for the Championship this year, but everything that could have gone wrong for them, went wrong (many recurring injuries to starters, bad execution, questionable coaching decisions, chemistry issues, bad luck, etc). This is a very atypical season for them and they will be better next year.
