Rochester Americans and Jacksonville Icemen 2024 Season Thread.

Helenius crushes Max Crozier and Crozier is still down. Looking for a replay - looked like he got him from the side but may be boarding.

Edit - backed it up, it's just a big hit from the side. Crozier went into the boards head and shoulder first. No penalty.

Schmidt runs Ostlund into the wall long after an offside whistle, sort of kicked him from behind on the way in. Everyone piles in and Schmidt is PO'd heading to the box. This is what the Crunch did last weekend and lost too. Amerks to their first PP.

Helenius with a nice slap-pass pay to Fiddler-Schultz just misses, then Helenius gets a shot off RW coming back on a reload after the Crunch fail to clear. Fanti who came into the 2nd for Halverson struggles to find it but they can't convert.

Wahlberg flattens Korczak, then coughs it up resulting in a Duke breakaway. Sandstrom makes the save and Syracuse again tries getting pushy with Angello and Metsa having words (Metsa dropping gloves in the clinch) at the front of the net.

Now Crozier boards Fiddler-Schultz from behind. He's still bitching about the Helenius hit.

Derrick Pouliot cross-checks Helenius after a whistle and they joust, then chat all the way to the boxes and into the boxes. Syracuse has lost their cool over the hit.

Gabriel Dumont skates into Komarov who is tracking another man. Komarov goes to the box, Dumont to the room.

After some chatting, the refs determine it's a minor for interference. I would expect this gets even spicier with that. It looked accidental but Dumont's had some issues and was having difficulty after running into Komarov.

Was at game. Rochester won
3 goals by Amerks
Syracuse goalie pulled. Did not play well
Syracuse started to be more physical. Rochester started to back off. Rochester holds on and add Eng.

Bannestrom (rangers trade) is nasty good add
Wahlberg looks comfortable in physical play
Russian dmen look good and big and lanky
Only prospect on pp1 was Otslund he looks good but needs to add some girth

Should be a fun game tommorow. Expect Syracuse to come out crunching.

Third in three winds up in OT and old *ahem* friend Connor Sheary wins it in the extra session. The Smerks did look tanked. I know Dunne played his fourth game in four nights. I don’t see that they made any of your roster changes from yesterday to today other than putting Levi in goal.

Went to the game.

Outside of OT, Ostlund was awesome. He very much controls the game when hes out there. His positioning is high end and his vision is top notch too. Probably the best forward on the ice for both teams.

Johnson was the best on the back end. His passing was crisp and his ability to withstand a hit has definitely increased.

Dunne is fantastic on the PK. A mix of aggression and anticipation.

Fiddler shultz had a couple nice takeaways that led to breakaways

Murray has somehow gotten slower. Hoping thats a 3 in 3 thing

they need rosen back asap. Outside of Ostlund they Just didnt seem dangerous and if they had a chance it just wasn’t executed.

With that said, the kids got a ton of playing time. The fact that the kids are out there and they are super competitive is great to see

Any chance Ostlund gets a late season call up to reward him for his AHL play?
I can't picture it. Not that he hasn't earned it, but:

1.) Rochester and Laval are fighting for the division, so every game/point kind of matters
2a.) Rochester's schedule is crazy. The longest break that they have is 4 days between the 11th and 16th
2b.) Buffalo and Rochester have very opposing schedules -- should Buffalo want to reward Osti for his play, the date that makes the most sense is the 13th when Buffalo is on the 2nd of a B2B....but in Florida. So he'd have to fly down, not practice with the team (12th and 13th are gamedays for Buffalo) and then go into a game against Florida....then fly back and jump back into the AHL playoff push.

I think everyone involved is going to think it's just better off keeping him in Rochester for the rest of the season and then giving him a good, long look next preseason.
