Goaltending has absolutely been TERRIBLE this season and is the reason this team will play 4 games in the playoffs and be done!

Dubas trading the 21’ 1st round pick was a big mistake. This team should be rebuilding.

I didn't see the game and saw the shot differential and thought that the Leafs was probably the better team and with a combination of our poor goaltending and their hot goaltending we lost. You're saying that their shots were low quality and they didn't look ready to play?

Marner seemed to be sleep walking through the game, he had spurts of elite Mitch but not a game he would put in his top 100 performances. The team TBH looked confused, rushed, panicked, out of synch, out of rhythm. Lots of puck bouncing off our sticks after a pass, like we were not ready for the pass. Big Save Dave literally let a goal five hole, that was so little league It was pitiful. We had a lot of shot but I never felt like we were going to win.

TBH I'm less pissed about this game than I was the first game.

Melodrama. We have a good chance of winning a round and some chance of winning another round after that.

dont be so dramatic. does it suck when they lose? absolutely but theyre still in 1st place. all good teams go through bad stretches. the regular season is a grind. wait to see how this team does in the playoffs.

I think we can all predict how this team is going to do in the playoffs

There are two Leaf teams.
With good goaltending, they're the top team in the division.
With the goaltending we've gotten the past 5-6 games, they're out in the first round.

It sucks to lose, but to blame it on anything other than goaltending is foolish. Swap Holtby/Rittch last night, and Holtby/Campbell in the game before and we walk away with 2 easy wins. He made saves to win the games, our goaltenders did not.

Good: PP scored, JT has new life, Willy-JT developing chemistry, Sandin looked great

Meh: One of Reillys better games

Bad: Matthews still looks hurt, Marner is the new Kaberle, depth looked bad, Bogo hurt

Ugly: Rittich....twice

This is how I console myself...

I am just warning people now that if you don’t want to read negative comments, then I strongly suggest you don’t bother reading this one.
This team is so Jekyll and Hyde. Play like champions for one stretch and then play where they could not beat a junior team other times. I doubt that we will finish first, and I can’t see us finally winning a first round playoff series.
Something else I want to point out. In a game between Carolina and Tampa Bay a few nights ago, a Tampa player levelled a Carolina player, and look who the Carolina player was that stood up for his teammate, Jake Gardiner. To me it’s obvious it is coming from the very top that our players are not to respond with any type of physicality toward the opposing team no matter what happens. When Gardiner played for us he would never have done something like that, yet here he is doing it in Carolina. More often than not I find myself thinking this team is gutless.
That is my rant for now!

I like the moves Dubas made at the TDL and we will see how good there were soon. The problem now is that some of his off season value signings are no longer producing.

Brodie - (UFA) A
Bogo - A
Thornton - D
Vesey - D (gone)
Boyd - C (gone)
Dell - F (never played a game)
Hutch - F (needed to be replaced by 33)
Simmonds - D (virtually doing nothing)
Spezza - C

Disagree. You don't lose games because of a lack of fighting. I'll admit it has its moments (IE when Hyman got his knee blown up 2 games ago). Which is what I thought was the reason they signed Simmonds. He's done nothing. Waste of a roster spot, and we lost a guy like Travis Boyd to keep him in the lineup.

Now we traded a 1st round pick for Foligno, who provides barely offense whatsoever.
Toughness, heart, "a guy you win with"...ironic that he's never been out of the second round. Let's see how that plays out.

With good goaltending, and a lineup that plays players who can skate and make plays, this team wins most games.
While I agree there's a need for players playing hard, and being hard to play against, goals win games. Scoring, and not having a goalie giving up a goal 1 out of every 5 shots will help.

Well it sounds like they didn't play well according to you and you're probably right. I did see the 1st game against Vancouver and although the Leafs lost they played well and were by far the better team, but it sounds like that wasn't the case last night.

While goaltending has been bad, it's not the only issue with this team. It's the same core that's been there for the last few years. They just don't have the it factor. I don't see this team going on a run any time soon. When the playoff intensity starts this time of year the Leafs struggle.

The Canucks aren't even playing for the playoffs.

They're just playing, and beating us rather cleanly.

It’s a good thing they play in a junk division and should be able to get out of it. After that is anyone’s guess, but this is not a proper season to evaluate anything.

No fans in the stands, teams missing multiple games than shoe horning them back in.

Players probably not all in, too many outside distractions. Dubas should have stood pat at the deadline, but his inexperience showed.

Perhaps a list of who we can and can't blame would be helpful?

I know we're allowed to blame the 2 goalies (not Jack), Rielly, Babcock, Lou Lam, who else please?

You can blame me.

I didn't want to tell anyone but Dubas has been PM'ing me here on HFboards asking what to do at the trade deadline. :sarcasm:

I'm glad I fast forwarded that garbage. Not gonna win any games when your goalies are house league caliber. That 3rd goal was such utter shit.
