Goal support. Bone headed decision making by some of the D men. Poor man marking by forwards. This team doesn't play a playoff style game.

Alright, let's break this down statistically.

Goal support, we've struggled a bit in this past stretch vs. the rest of the season and a lot of that has to do with the PP. Fair, we need to fix our PP. We are still 7th in GF/60 in the league despite having a non-existing PP for a month and a half. We give our goalies plenty of goal support and defensive support.

Bone-headed decision making by the defensemen... You won't find a defenseman in the world where this doesn't happen at all. Our defense has been consistently good this year. It can always tighten up, but there have been a lot fewer cases where a defensive mistake has led to a goal than in recent years. Same goes for poor marking by forwards. You probably just notice both because when they do happen, it is often in the highlight reel/replays during the game. A lot less often than good defensive plays anyways (usually only exceptional defensive plays make it).

Again,
Last 5 games 5v5:
Shots Against: 8th lowest in the NHL
xGA/60: 8th lowest in the NHL

Not saying they have been perfect but pretty sure they havnt been the trainwreck some are making out.

Pretty sure being bottom of the league for save% the last 5 is the real problem.

eye test wise, they are playing their worst hockey of the season and it is the same old story like the past few seasons.
I think if Simmonds or Jumbo or anyone actually started a fight or two or show that they are playing with more passion, it will give us more hope. As the only person who has been consistently showing this type of emotion and passion is Hyman.

PK has not been great either, but some of that rests on the goaltending. Our PK has not been stellar but our goaltending still finds a way to be worse, which is never going to fly.

For example today, our PK played well outside of Marner making a stupid error to prevent us from clearing the puck. Bad play, should have been able to get out. However Rittich giving up a terrible rebound ultimately led to that goal going in.

Two PK goals prior were poor coverage and good shots.

well look at the last 4 seasons 1st round exits, the book is out on this team, clogg the middle, trap and tenaciously forcheck and get on our defense. I dunno am I the only one seeing all the turnovers, hurried bad passes and decisions with the puck and no flow to our game when teams play us this way? Certain players trying to stickhandle around 2 or three guys coughing up pucks, Reilly playing poorly along with Muzzin and Holl while Bogo and Dermott being our stalwart pair making the least boneheaded plays. This team being far too easy to play against and see a big 0 tenacity or battle from our guys and a couple old guys with former glory of being able to play heavy hockey and age and injuries have nullified them. I could go on to so many more points but its just not worth the type. This team played 3 exeptional games against Edmonton in that 3 game series where everyone battled, finished checks top to bottom, speed and passing top notch with high caliber creativity with the puck, Edmonton didn't know what hit them and I have not seen that effort since from each player, this team while in 1st never fires on all cylinders it always a line here or there or certain players rise on different games. This core lost to a freakin Zamboni driver and lost twice to a team that has not played or exercised for over a month what else do you want me to say

This is a complete mess so I am not even going to bother, but I think I have covered most of those points anyways.

In terms of clogging up the middle of the ice and the physical teams, we've had success against those teams as well... And if it was such an easy book to read and everyone has it on us, then why does everyone have a tough time stopping us? Just clog up the middle and play us tough and we are screwed, right? Boston and Columbus barely squeaked out series wins against us and they needed their goalie to outperform ours to be able to do so (losing Kadri against Boston twice and Muzzin in Columbus also did not help), and I would say our team is a lot better than the ones we used against Boston with or without Kadri. Especially with the defensive additions both at forward and on defense.

So Keefe willing to call out the backups, which is nice, but Andersen is bad all season and not a peep.

Babcock was the same way, do the sport psychologist just tell them this guy can't handle criticism. Or maybe he's just 6'5 and scary in person?

You can't blame Dubas now. He literally did what our fans wanted which is get grit. This is the result.
Exactly what grit that Dubas acquired at the TDL played last night. You can't mean 33. If Dubas makes moves based on what the fans want he should be fired immediately. Me thinks it is more likely he listened to his boss.

Well, not like they were producing the last few games. Marner has not been playing good at all the last while.
74.49% xgf% and yet he fails to make up the 4 goals the team needed to win. Total garbage fans is more likely a bigger problem

Maybe XGF is a garbage stat, that has way too many flaws to be accurate in a sample as small as 1 game.

I don't know exactly what goes into it, but high danger chances is complete garbage with small sample sizes.

This team is not a Cup contender. First round out again. Going to be embarrassing when we watch the Isles romp to the final, with a guy at the helm who knows how to build a champion. Oh, wait wasn't he with the Leafs, and they let him go and chose an EA Sport GM?? And Marner has got to go.

Is this the same Rittich that some claim went god mode against us?
God mode seems to be the term/excuse used every time our team filled with so much skill and talent can't solve a goalie.

Just like Holtby did, and Ottawa's goalies have and in the play in's both Columbus' backups were lights out. You know it can't be us tho, Vezina backups all of them.

4 goal difference between winning and loosing is not a small sample size. Only a low iq assessment blames a player like Marner with 5 shots on net for losing. More likely you should be angry at how poorly you were taught basic logic let alone statistics

I would imagine if you’re a goalie that lets in a goal that was tipped by a teammate, you’d be furious. Maybe if it happened frequently, you’d throw some shade, stare daggers, etc. Then we got our guy who hasn’t even played a handful of games and who not only stares at the wrong teammate, but then also lets in a backbreaking softie that was otherwise destined to miss the net. How embarrassing.

Well folks this is the girl we are taking to the dance.

This is the team that is going to win us the Cup this year.

We lose to 4th place Montreal, 5th place Calgary and 6 place Vancouver twice but we are going to beat Colorado, Las Vegas, Florida, Carolina, Tampa bay in a 7 game series.

Toronto Maple Choke Berries. Gutless. Leaderless. Effortless. Boys just roll over like a good dog and take whatever our opponent gives you, our opponents need someone to practice against to move on in the playoffs.

Since March 1st is the standings in the North

1) Winnipeg 30 points
2) Edmonton 28 points
3) Toronto 27 points
4) Montreal 24 points

During this time we are:
27th in Hits
28th in SV%
23rd in Blocked Shots
23rd in Blocked shots against
19th in sh%

Some of that is because we are a high possession team, some of that is because we have been horrid compared to the team that we had in January.

We are not the elite in a category by itself, sure fire going to win the North team that some Leaf fans want to think we are.

This team has a lot of soul searching to do. Horrid gutless effort.

Although Big Save Dave, was Swiss Cheese Dave, this team has many structural deficiencies that need to be fixed before playoffs, it's not just shitty goaltending, that is if we make the playoffs. This team looks like a combination of a team playing scared and a tired team.

I actually don't mind this one bit. The way this season started for the Leafs had me worried. I expected them to have no adversity and then facing it come playoff time which would be scary.

Now they've had their dose of it this season. Let's see how they come out of it.

These last ten games will show us what they're made of.

He sucked too. Bring back Michael Hutchinson.
Here is your solution. Can we resurrect this guy???
