As of now, his team seems a lot more structured defensively than Houle's.

Obviously early but right now it's 2.17 GA versus 3.36 GA last year.

Offence is 3.33 GF vs 3.26 GF so around the same.
The defensive structure was terrible and Dobes was too aggressive, or just moved way too much and ended up out of the net a lot

At the end of the year he was a completely different goalie. Sounds like he's still improving which is awesome.

Better d, with Wortherspoon being so reliable. The youngsters are a year older, too, so that helps.

A team I actually have faith to be coached well despite what people said about Vincent in Columbus
Superior talent seems always to lead to better coaching.

This Laval team has been infused with a wave of promising talent: Beck, Tuch, Florian, Mesar, Engstrom, Kidney, Farrell & Davidson. Some other key players like Roy and Trudeau are one year older. Support them with AHL level competent defencemen like Wotherspoon, Hayes and Jacobs and you have a competitive team and an environment where your youth can develop winning habits.

we'll see what Laval is in time, as with the AHL, there's usually so much roster turnover year to year that you need to see how the league unfolds to see what teams are good this year vs which ones suck.

Right now Laval is doing great at 5-1 but 4 of those wins have come against teams that have combined for 2 wins out of 12 games so far. They did beat the Crunch in 2 games though and they are right behind us in the division. Tonight and the next 2 after against providence give them a chance to build up some points as after that from Nov 8th to Dec 14th the schedule will get tougher vs Sens, Crunch, Rochester and Marlies plus 1 vs Hershey, Pens and Hartford. During that span they play only 1 game vs a sub .500 team (based off today's standings), the flyers on 11-30

By the end of that run we should start to have a clearer picture of how good this team is.

I think it's more the team and how their system doesn't suck.

We saw improvement in the team last year after their horrendous start.

Farrell wasn't very good last year and so far this year (stats wise) he's still not good.

The others have either had a decent start, or aren't that high-end of a prospect, but have tools that should help them make the NHL.

It will become evident soon that Pascal Vincent is an excellent coach.

We had these waves for the last three years and guys didn't look this good. I'm not sure this crop is any better than the one a few years back. Coaching definitely helps guys become better pros. Other guys had three years under the previous coach and didn't work any of their bad habits out of their game.
