I’m just waiting for the “should we call up Beck?” posters! lol!
If he continues to progress, it would not surprise me if Beck gets a 'taste' of the NHL later this season. It also wouldn't surprise me that once called up, Beck never returns to Laval.

I wasn't a fan of the Vincent hiring but glad he is proving me wrong, glad to see he has the Rocket playing so well to start the season. I wasn't very familiar with him and was just expecting another dinosaur head coach in Laval, but with the way the team is playing and hearing him in press conferences he has been a very good hire so far.

Despite some injuries and losing Mailloux to Montreal, they have kept rolling, even their only loss this year could've been a win.

We've finally got to a point where the Kidneys and Farrells of the world are sit and let develop and see what you have.

Under Bergevin they'd be critical prospects we needed to pan out because we had no other options internally.

If Kidney and Farrell don't become NHL regulars it will ultimately have 0 impact on our ability to become contenders. If they do, that's just another asset or player in the mix to choose the best of the lot and trade the others.

Pretty crazy we will be adding two more first round picks, one a relatively high one (ours), and we should have two fairly high 2nds to use either to draft, acquire a youngish player with some jam and fire, jump into the first round again, or move up with either of our first rounders.
Well said. Our prospect board was so pitiful for so long that anytime a player showed any semblance of skill he was” an exciting too prospect “when the reality was he wouldn’t be a prospect on any other team

We were basically grasping at straws but sadly so many couldn’t see this and kept believing we had players who could make it

I was at the game last night ( 2nd time this year) and the kids put on a great show.
2 games in person is a small sample , but some things are just really apparent.
1) people crapping on Roy are out of their minds; he might look nonchalant at times, but that’s just his ‘smarts’ in full display…. He always finds open ice to sneak into, he’s a great back checker and kills plays with his active stick, and he has elite vision that allows him to laser passes to his teammates; I have said it before, if he played with talented players he would be very productive in Montreal.
2) Florian Xhekaj will have a NHL career sooner than later. I appreciate the fact that Vincent puts him in all critical situations. Xhekaj is sneaky fast , has good hands and looks like he enjoys getting his nose dirty, the kid is not shy.
3) Tuch is a great forchecker, and looks intimidating on the ice, he’s also very sharp in the D zone , this guy has NHL 3rd liner written all over him. Put your money on it, he’ll have a nice career.
4) Beck does all the little things NHL coaches love; nothing flashy, but highly effective mostly in the defensive zone. I know he had 2 pts last night, but his offensive skills look limited.
5) I would be the most surprised fan if Farrell makes it in the NHL…… he gets pushed around by everyone, plays a perimeter game and looks intimidated. I would not be surprised if the Habs simply let his entry contract run out and move away from him after.
6) Dobes is a beast in net
7) I’m really not fond of Engstrom. He’s always making fancy little plays that don’t work on smaller North American rinks. He’s a very high risk defender. I hope he adjusts at some point.
8) Trudeau is a stud on D, even if did not look good last year in the few games he played in the NHL preseason, I would not count him out right away. If he keeps improving his game, he might surprise people .
9) I really like Davidson. He’s also a very efficient forechecker and score a beauty of a goal last night. He plays a ‘pro’ game a la Tuch, but with lesser skating abilities; don’t think he’ll make it in the NHL, but he’s the kind of warrior you want in your AHL squad.

So overall, going to Laval is a great experience.

Yes, that experience, size and mobility on defence is the positive foundation that this very young team can build on. Though I don't focus on veterans in my game summaries, I have been particularly impressed with Jacobs. He is clearly the most mobile of the Laval defencemen and, at least to this observer, a notch too good for the AHL. It would be interesting to see what he could at the next level.
From the day he was drafted, Jacobs has always been seen as such a great skater. He just goes in the category of in the middle between AHL and NHL. Never was a point producer. But he fitted in the untapped potential that eventually stayed...untapped...lol.

Which means, either career AHL'er or....Europe. Nothing to be ashamed of.....it still makes you a professionnal hockey player. Something we all wish we'd be.
