at this point, you ride Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf for the better or the worst. There is no other solution and you can't let Slaf play 11min a night without pp time. If you want the kid to succeed, you need to put him in the right situation with the best players possible.
I agree the 3 did not look too good at the beginning of the year but the production was there, They tried pretty much everyone and it did not look better,

All this bitching would have more merit if it made sense.

If Dach, Slaf, Newhook are truly this awful then how could you also blame MSL at the same time? How’s he supposed to win?

And inversely if MSL is even worse than Michou why would you blame a bunch of young players playing for the worst coach ever?

You can’t have it both ways and want to make it make sense.

There’s something going wrong. It’s frustrating to not know what it is. But benchings need to start.

As much as it would be a relief to find out Suzuki and Slaf are actually hurt they still better not be playing hurt because that stuff needs to stop
its a problem of so many areas
team needs progression not regression ... is that what you want? go backwards?

I watched that one with Lapierre last night and he's 100% right. I loved the part where he says hockey players are gifted with a chance, and the women who works 60 hours a week raising kids, ordinary people who work hard just to survive, etc. He mentioned the 3 simple things Bob Gainey asked him to do. He did it, all thru his career and instead of having a short career with his limited skills toolbox, he played in the NHL more than 10 years.
His most revealing comments were all about "Simple Skills" vs "Super Skills".
He's so right Can we even count on three fingers the forwards on this team who play a game based on "Simple Skills".
Here's a list of three things you need to so to merit a spot in this line up.
And people wonder why the concepts approach was always doomed for failure.
It's been remarked on forever here and called by different names but its the same thing.
Learn the basics execute and then add if you are able.
We haven't learned step one. :ha:

What happens if the Habs lose the next 3 in ugly fashion?
Honestly, beside the fan and media losing their mind... nothing.
MSL wont be fired, no impactful trade can be made. They will try to see if Laine joining the team jump start something. They will bench Pezzeta, and Roy

Or Gorton for hiring GM and coach with ZERO NHL experience (or any other experience). My guess... another 7 years or so... kinda like with Bergevin.
The only real mistake thus far from Gorton and KH is hiring MSL. We may not all think that some trade are good, but none of them are mistake per say.

MSL should have been an assistant coach first. Now we are stuck with Pouty Face as head coach.

I understand. On the other hand, posting here gets depressing. Not on you guys (and girls) but we talk about what? A team that might not deserve our attention. We could go sleep for the next 2 years and wake up see where this team is, if maybe there is an improvement. It would be better for our mental health.

Trading Sergachev for Drouin was one of Bergevin's worst moves...dude was a bad GM
If the Dach and Newhook trades were good moves - so was the Drouin trade

The funny thing about the Dach trade is if we keep the pick and draft Nazar everyone and i mean almost the entire boards would be complaining about Nazar. Another small player. A flop i mean he got only 1 assist in 3 games he is not ready and clearly a flot since he's not Crosby quality at 20 years old i mean he's not even dominating the AHL that much. He would clearly be called a flop around here no doubt about it. It was a fine trade. A fine gamble. The only trade KH made that i did not like and still don't like is the Newhook trade. That was too much given for a guy like him at 22 and a half he was too old to be an interesting gamble.

No. For one Drouin was 22 when the trade was made he was getting close to be as seen on TV. Also Dach is a big guy while Drouin is a small winger. Small wingers always have less value than big skilled player. Sergachev was a 9th overall pick in a good draft while Nazar was a 13th overall pick in a bad draft.

Also Sergachev did not need to be protected while Drouin had to be protected. The trade was Sergachev + protection slot in exchange for Drouin - protection slot. Arguably the highest valued part in the trade was the protection slot. TB did not want to protect Drouin.

There's absolutely 0 comparison to be made between both trade. Dach was younger (D+4) than Drouin (D+5). Dach was a more valuable type of prospect. And there's was no prtotection slot involved in the Dach trade.

that is a HUGE mistake and they continue to not even try to correct it. If MSL doesn't want an experience assistant coach - tough shit. Hughes shouldn't give a F what MSL wants. Worse, giving MSL that ridiculous 3 year contract that probably is now also makes it harder to can his ass. How many ex coaches does Molson have to keep paying? (not that I give a shit about molson's money)

I would also say that his trades were Dach and Newhook were bad. Habs would have been much better served with tough 3rd/4th lines than these guys. In either scenario that team would still at best only have 1 decent line. So wasted two first round picks.

Goalies situation last season and also this season. Still no backup.

Not using "da future" to acquire some veteran help and properly surround Slaf and CC. Max Lapierre was talking about it yesterday that Habs don't seem to have vets that take youngsters under their wing. Take them to live into their homes and keep them straight when required.

Passing on Michkov in itself is worthy of firing.

Hughes is no good.

Drouin was 22 and had 14 points in 17 playoff games as a 20 year old.

My point is that the brain trust here excuses every bad Hughes move as "even if it doesn't work out it was still a smart move"

I fully agree with the Dach trade. Add to that that the knee injury may have turn this trade from a homerun into a bunt. If you recall, he was on fire before that injury, people where talking of him as the new 1C, overtaking Suzuki. So, can someone blame KH for a trade that look fantastic, but turn bad due to factors outside his control????

The Newhook trade wasn't great, but I dont put it in the bad trade colomn. KH paid too much for him but when it is all said and done, Newhook will most likely have a better career then the to guys drafted with these two pick. That said, could he have acquire a better guy then Newhook for these pick, I dont know, but Newhook skill set dosent seems to fit with this group right now.

The one trade I think he lost was Lehkonen. Barron was a massive question mark before we got him, it was a massive gamble and a 2nd didn't compensate for that.

Seriously, can we stop with the Cooley coolaid nonsense. Hell, the guy had 12pts in his first 19g. He's been hot in the last 3games he played but he had bad stretch this year too like Slaf but unlike him he wasn't throw under the bus and demoted to the 4th line. Young player have bad and good stretch. It's part of the process.

They are trying kids. Some of them will work other not. There's nothing that is done atm that was not done by other rebuilding teams in the past including LA and Colorado. If there's no vets to help the kids then blame previous management cause we are stuck with their vets because of contract. There's enough vets in this team they are just not good outside of Gallagher. MSL doesn't look good they should replace him the cinderella run is over.
