I agree, but that's just the nature of the beast. New names "sounds silly and like video game create-a-team" simply because they haven't been normalized by existing for decades.

Most the existing team nicknames in all sports would sound REALLY DUMB if they hadn't already been normalized for decades.

Just try it cross-sport with nicknames... Utah Dodgers? It's hockey, not Dodgeball. Utah Athletics? It's a sport, they're all athletic. Utah Cardinals? What does a bird have to do with hockey? Utah Blue Sox? So uninspired.

Release it at the opening face-off of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals...I'm sure Gary would want it that way.

Normally I would say they would just do it at the draft, but since the orgs won't be there this time....they'll probably do it right after the SCF

Yeah but Outlaws has been used for so many minor league teams you can't really use it for a major league team. Yes most names eventually grow on people. Other than Devil Rays. There are a couple of people who still wish Toronto had revived the Huskies name instead of the Raptors but that faded after they won the title.

it's funny because it's true. Or the day after the SCF ends, whatever is best for keeping the NHL in the news.

I would think the last home game would be a good time to announce the name. However, they are still in the playoff hunt. They could do an event before the draft where they have all the season ticket holders out and give them first crack at buying the new gear. The problem is you won't be able to keep it under wraps that long.
I was at the unveiling of the Browns new uniforms when they changed in 2014. They were leaked the day before by one of the stores the jerseys were shipped to.

Ya, would make sense to announce it soon and try to build up hype while also getting merchandise out early. That would avoid the problem of a leak ruining any sort of announcement plans.

A stand-alone event would be cool. There is something about being able to be literally the first people in the world to get their hands on the gear.

Unfortunately the at the Browns even the jerseys were so awful everyone just walked out. They basically went back to the old uniforms 4 years later.

yeah but that was a new low. Like imagine 3 diehard fans simultaneously deciding, "we'll pass on the chance to be the first person in the world to own the new gear" it was that bad. The players came out in rain coats then they dropped them revealing the new uniforms. The audience was just stunned silent.

OF course they hit another new low when they went 1-31.
