Seravalli: Utah 'on the prowl' for big deal ahead of deadline

Biggest need is a 2C behind Cooley.

Based on the reporting that the team is looking for a long-term fit, and already showed interest in Elias Pettersson, I'd wonder if someone like Dylan Cozens makes sense. Just don't know what a fair return would be for Buffalo.
Cozens is a low end 2C, in my opinion. I think I would try to aim higher.

Three way:

R. Andersson to Buffalo

Cozens to Utah

T. Iginla to Calgary

As main pieces. Maybe a decent prospect like Rosen to Utah as well.
No.

It happens all the time to non-playoff/rebuilding teams at the deadline. See: Any of Ottawa's trades at recent deadlines.
Except for rentals, who did Ottawa trade away that was high performing?

DeBrincat? Although he put up points, he didn't exactly play at anywhere near a high level on the Sens.

The most recent high profile one would be Tkachuk / Huberdeau where both players had come off Elite seasons.

It makes sense. They loaded up on picks and prospects hard the last few years. Managing all the youth will be hard for Utah I feel.

Just like Leo DiCaprio :naughty:

You need to get them before their ELC expires…

You really think Miller is going to waive for Utah?
I've never been to Salt Lake City but I have friends there. There are ski resorts close by. More outdoor activities than you know what to do with. The Temperature is reasonable. I would think that it would be comparable to Denver in terms of attracting NHL talent.

If you are suggesting he wouldn't go because of the team.

They are one point back of his current team.

They have young american superstars in Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley. They have a decent back end. They have an owner who seems to be laid back.

I think Utah would be a great place to go.

All the talk I've heard is that he wants to go to eastern USA and he has control. Depends how motivated he is to get out of there I guess

It's their first year in a new city, got to impress the new fanbase.
Especially with the Utah Jazz trying to lose games.

Pittsburgh is looking to offload Patterson a LD with a need for a new contract. Perfect #3 to anchor the 2nd pair.

2nd + B+ prospect would be something we wouldn't mind.

Especially if that prospect is a C.

Nelson and Pelech?
There's your 2C and experienced LD

What do you offer?

Want Cizikas too?

LIterally last in the league in attendance lmao

... because they play in a venue that has less seats than most other NHL arenas. They are averaging 11, 131 per game.... there are 11, 131 unobstructed seats in the arena.

Honestly as a buy low option it's not the worst idea. Utah does need a 2C.

I dont thin kits a good idea at all. Not worth committing that much cap space for him, especially because his deal has a lot of term left. Cap might be going up but Cooley is going to need a sizeable extension in 2026 and they'd be better off saving the cap space for a better player.
