Mammoth is awful, but this is also a league where a team has the name Wild.

Yeah, like Hockey Club. :shakehead

On a side note, how can billionaires mess up things like this?
Well sticking with hockey club would probably be just a bit better than Wasatch. I think Mammoth is a mid option compared to some of the other proposals, but it's not terrible. I mean, as mentioned above we have a team named the Wild which is just objectively bad but we've heard it enough times that it's just part of the tribe for better or worse. That effect has helped a lot of teams. I mean with no disrespect to any of these teams, the Flyers is a pretty lame name. Like what is it, just everything that flies from planes to eagles? Penguins? Flightless waddling birds that are prey to seals and killer whales? Canucks and Canadiens are just different words for a nationality. I still don't know what the f*** a Red Wing is other than just a random animal body part with a color attached to it. Avalanche probably sounded dorky as shit when the team was originally formed. Predators instantly has a tragic double meaning. What's cool about an Islander? What's cool about an Oiler? What's cool about a Maple Leaf? And there is certainly nothing cool about a Senator. What's intimidating or cool about a Duck? (this is my favorite team) The problem with trying to come up with a great name is most of the good ones are taken either within this league or by other major pro sports teams. Usage over time and legacy helps make lame sounding names have iconography. Mammoth is fine and we'll all be used to it eventually. It could make for solid branding too depending on the logo they lock down.

Between something that doesnt exist and something thats extinct, I guess the one that actually existed at some point is better.

Plus a mammoth would beat the yeti in a fight. Jamie, pull up the video of a bear eating a pizza.

Biggest failure for sure.
Outlaws is such a cool name with an immediate attachment to the wild west which fits the area pretty well and imo is the most interesting and badass period of America.

The only reason I can think why they passed on it was the colour scheme doesn't scream outlaw? Wild west colours for me would be gold, black, silver and sandy brown?
Mammoth fits very well with the current colour scheme.

Outlaws is a shitty generic minor league name that always have shitty generic minor league logos. Almost guaranteed to be a cowboy with a bandana over their face. And if they feel creative they'll put a cowboy hat and a bandana on a puck!

There are hundreds of variations of teams named Outlaws or some other stupid cowboy shit.

Edit: just doing some research, I found 15 different teams named the Outlaws/Outlawz, 9 named the Bandits, 42 Cavalry/Cavaliers, 40 Cowboys, 12 Wranglers... and I stopped searching for cowboy/western themed names there... figured 118 was enough to prove my point

Yeah I really don’t understand why anyone would think Outlaws is a good option. Reminds me of a minor league football team.

Mammoths are both relevant in Utah and cool. The problem is that they didn’t add the s, which someone needs to explain. Did they think Mammoth is the plural of Mammoth? Mammi? Mammeese?
