I'm not even sold on the name Yeti, but I think this is so stupid

Who's going to "confuse" a professional sports team with a cooler?

Nobody goes to a Denver Nuggets game and gets confused that it's not a McDonald's convention.
No one is struggling to differentiate the LA Galaxy from a Samsung Galaxy.

Hell, we have Jets-Jets, Rangers-Rangers, Kings-Kings, Panthers-Panthers, Giants-Giants, and Cardinals-Cardinals and we seem to get by fine

They cover completely different markets.
Yeah but to this day I still expect the Stanley Cup to be filled with mid quality hand tools.

Utah Bighorns, avoids calling them the Rams, they just have to work up a cool logo that’s not too much like L.A’s.

I mean TECHNICALLY it’s true that dinosaurs are currently non-existent.
I guess, but that's not the way I read his post and I don't believe I'm alone. I might be wrong as to his intent, but I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in interpreting his post the way i did.
Dinosaurs are real AND currently exist.

However, birds aren't real. They're just government drones.
We've all been monitored since childhood. Sesame Street. Big Bird. Big Brother. Do your own research, people!! :scared:

As an IP attorney in the US, it's hilarious how many of you are commenting as if you have even the slightest grasp on trademark law or how the USPTO works. The YETI application was refused because the HC is seeking to register the mark for clothing and other merch-related items for which there are already registered YETI marks. It's not because the government thinks people would be confused between YETI being used for the provision of hockey exhibitions and YETI being used for coolers and insulated cups.

When the YETI name was first floated, there were several articles pointing out that it would be a difficult path to register the YETI mark because of the existing registrations, which the HC was aware of. The HC is free to try to negotiate consent or coexistence agreements with the owners of the existing YETI registrations (which I'm sure they have tried), but it appears those holders of the existing regs aren't willing to play ball (or puck). Trust me--both the NHL and the USPTO have very smart attorneys handling these matters.

I imagine this is why Vegas couldn't go with the Knights in Canada, since a hockey team (albeit a major junior one) has the rights for merch related items.

Raptors are birds of prey and small dinosaurs but the Raptor that is from Jurassic Park never existed. An actual velociraptor was the size of a turkey. Toronto’s mascot is from the movie
You mean a movie modified the original source material in order to make the film more profitable and/or entertaining? I AM TOTALLY SHOCKED!

Utah Hive, it's on their state flag or something related to bees. Utah Sting? Not sure if it's been mentioned

Edit: nevermind just looked up lol. I think it's pretty good though, representing the state that's what it's all about

Outlaws is best.

Rhymes, Utah was part of the "Wild West" in which outlaws were prominent, and it has zero corny level.

Checks all the boxes.
Utah Outlaws absolutely does sound good and as you say, wild west, check boxes, it truly does, have to be on the Will Accept list of the ownerships family though...not sure if they will like Outlaws and the negative conotation that some associate with same.

may have already been said but Wilson Snipes are found in utah year around. Utah Snipes................. only a little corny or mostly

Maybe they need to go back further and acknowledge it's time for the Utah Jets, and finally take hold of their franchise identity.
Since Carolina has occasionally worn the Whalers uni’s, I’d love to see a Utah vs Winnipeg game with the same type of nod to their franchise histories:

Winnipeg dressed as the late 2000’s Atlanta Thrashers and Utah rocking the uni’s of the mid-80’s Winnipeg Jets

I think the potential for confusing them with the Yeti brand is absurd. Who confuses a hockey team with a cooler brand... Seems crazy to me, also a bit weird for a Tibetan word to be owned by a cooler company such that another brand cant use it.

That said, Yeti never made sense to me. Its the Himalayan abominable snowman, that has nothing to do with Utah. Better than "Hockey Club" but surely they can do better than Yetis.

\Settlers or Pioneers or something? Or maybe a reference to one of their state animals like the Elk or something.

That is why it is not working
I guess to use the name Yeti they would have to not have the Yeti word on their merch.
