He's currently at 40.4%. It's not that terrible. Slaf can also take some, he even got FO training with the rest of the centers during the 5 days break.

Thinking about it, I think Slaf/Dach/x was in the plan long before Saturday game.

im a fan of newhook i have defended him here and other platforms and will continue to do that.

but i have no clue how the coaching staff came to the conclusion that he should be on the 1st line
assuming thats what the lines will be to start the game.

Newhook was good last year at C with Armia and Roy or Gallagher. Why not go back to that?

Controversial opinion: Newhook has actually been playing very well. Great hustle has been getting chances, has set up his linemates a fair share. However, because of the goose eggs in the stats column, everyone thinks he's been playing terrible.

Admittedly, he didn't start the season well. In fact, he looked quite awful. However, it's been a while where he actually looks good on the ice. But it's a results business and the stats aren't there. Like Slaf last year, if Newhook continues to play the way he has, the points will come.

Bye

Not controversial at all...

I think he might benefit from a game in the press box to help reset his mind/grip his stick a little less tightly, but other than handling the puck like a grenade at times, he's competing hard, generating chances and generally getting to the right places... All positive signs that the stat column peanut gallery won't see or acknowledge, but I'm sure the coaching staff does.

yeah i agree, but i think he can be a 2nd liner unlike alot of people, i think he thrives in a third line role at this point hes fast and has more skill than people give him credit for IMO.

i don't think hes been bad at all, theres been times where hes been one of the most noticeable guys on the ice at times

im just wondering why hes on the 1st line over someone like gally whos producing really well i think he can compliment Suzuki well and i just think he deserves the chance tbh.

Other than Suzuki and Caufield being designated a top line our other lines are quite interchangeable although Gallagher, Dvorak and Anderson appear locked as a 3rd line. MSL appears to be making room for some competition for playing time and the players who show up to play arlikely going to get it. The Armia Dach and Slafkovsky line can easily be getting 2nd line ice-time if they show up as they are likely to be playing against the oppositions 4th line. With Laine back soon it won't be long before one of Dach or Slafkovsky are also removed from the number 1 PP unit as well. MSL and the boys need to get this figured out soon.

He's been doing a lot of hard work and really for me the issue has been bobbling pucks and missing opportunities (that he created or helped to create). He's been solid in his own end as well. It's really only production that is the issue. Hopefully he'll find his way back to down the lineup as Laine and Roy come into the fold

This is good news for those of us that have only been able to watch him sporadically.

He is bad when it comes to protecting the puck on the wall, and sometimes turning the puck over by missing receptions of passes, and being soft in the middle of the ice too. But if he can do other things well he can make up for these short comings.

Will be interesting to see who makes it on the 3rd line, and the bottom six, potentially from among: Newhook, Roy, Beck, Kapanen, Tuch, Xhekaj, Heineman, and even Hage and Dach.

Newhook is probably the best option at 2C if Dach can't cut it in the middle.

It would be great if he could get going with Suzuki and Caufield before Laine comes back.

Damn, looks like I'm pulling a 12-3am shift to watch now. I wondered what a 6'4" line of Slaf / Dach / Armia would be like so now I get to find out.

Ya I’m sure losing all those faceoffs will help his confidence

There's only so much a coach can control with confidence management though. It's the player that needs to do the work. MSL has been simping to Dach so much, and with good reason, we need him to pan out badly.

But confidence is not gonna fall out of the f***ing sky. When has Kirby stayed extra time working on his handles after practice for example?

Confidence requires work.

Let's hope that Slaf and Dach will give a great effort tonight. Otherwise, I'll be very disappointed.
